Devadiga Sangha Assists Merit Students with Scholarships

Mangalore, Aug 7: Karnataka state Devadiga Sangha in association with Dubai Devadiga Sangha organised a scholarship distribution programme for economically backward merit students at the Devadiga Sangha Hall in Mannagudda here on Sunday August 7.
The chief guest on the occasion, noted entrepreneur Harish Sherigar said that obtaining education for students despite poverty is the duty of every person in the society. He called for more assistance to those who cannot afford education and urged people to donate generously for this noble cause. He also asked the students to make their parents proud by achieving great heights in life.

An sum of Rs 1,79,000 was distributed among students as scholarship.
Another chief guest Dr Devaraj K, principal of SDM college, said that the life of former President of India Dr Abdul Kalam was an ideal one. Poor financial background should not be an obstacle for pursuing education, he said, and noted that caste system has also helped in a way, such that many ‘sanghas’ (unions) had been formed and people of that community could come forward to donate for a good cause.
As many as 159 students were distributed the scholarships, of which 135 were SSLC students, and others PUC and degree students. Students from different places like Udupi, Karkala, Bhatkal, Mangalore availed the scholarships.
President of the Sangha Dinesh Devadiga presided. Vice-president Vaman Maroli welcomed. Veni Maroli, Sharmila Sherigar, Shekar Devadiga, Ramachandra Devadiga, Dinesh Devadiga Dubai among others were on the dais.
