Bangalore: BJP Still Stuck over New Karnataka Ministry Formation

Bangalore, Aug 7 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remained stuck on the formation of its new Karnataka ministry with rival factions mired in differences over the number and posts each will get, party sources said late Sunday.

BJP general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in the state Dharmendra Pradhan arrived here late Sunday and held talks with groups led by new Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and former rural development minister Jagadish Shettar.

State BJP chief K.S. Eshwarappa, who had backed Shettar to succeed scam-hit B.S. Yeddyurappa, also met Pradhan.

"More talks will be held to settle the number of ministers from each group and the portfolios for them," a party leader privy to the discussions told IANS Sunday night.

Eshwarappa told reporters before the meeting that he was hopeful of all issues being sorted out by late Sunday.

However, he did not talk to the media after the meeting. Others who took part in the discussions, including Gowda and Pradhan, also declined to talk to the media.

Gowda defeated Shettar in the elections held Aug 3 and took oath of office the following day at a ceremony boycotted by his rival Shettar and most of his supporters.

The two groups started the discussion on ministry formation Saturday. "The talks started after the party central leaders told the two groups the issue should be settled at the state level," the leader, requesting anonymity, said.

After Saturday's talks indications were that the two groups had agreed to equally share the ministerial berths, 17 each. The state can have a 34-member ministry, including the chief minister, under the constitutional provisions.

"Talks with Pradhan focused on the number of ministers to be sworn-in at present, their portfolios and whether there should be deputy chief minister," the leader said.

BJP could have negotiated before selecting the leader that, all the MLA’s must abide the order who ever is elected as their leader. Now every BJP MLA wants minister post, and it is unfortunate in BJP, and shows how greedy and evil mentality. Any how BJP is broken so many records in Karnataka State now one more chance for them to make it. Let all BJP MLA”s have the minister post and problem is solved and with in two years they can sell whole Karnataka State to some other country.

Ishwarappa should ashamed in continuing as undivided party chief of Bjp state unit.If Ishwarappa has any respect and conscience in him he should immediately tender his resignation.BJP of both factions are stands for JAATHI POLITICS rather than value based.Iswarappa and Ananth Kumar never ever dream of coming to # one position or take on first citizen of KARNATAKA.It is the tag of Gowda(vakkaliga)or Patil(lingayath)only take up the top job in BJP.What face Eddy or Shettar shows them who elected BJP to power in Karnataka. The situation unprecedented and alien to Karnataka political history what we are witnessing at present.

A toothless High Command of BJP and an adamant former CM who brought Karnataka Govt @ standstill.BJP(S-YES)and BJP(Why-Y)ruining political map of Karnataka.A weak and fragmented oppn helps these both factions to dictate terms each other in forming next govt.I hope and guess that the power hungry both factions are watched by 6 crore plus citizen of Karnataka to teach fitting ans when their turn is due.BJP High Command's pathetic situation will do more harm than good in given situation of Karnataka.Eddy today openly criticized Central leadership for the way he was removed from the post of cM and the comments passing in this context by top brass of BJP.More or less Eddy keeping his option open to challenge H.Command or.......only time will give ans.
