Mangalore: Teenager Loses Life after Consuming Fish

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 8: In a strange incident which occurred at Pachchanadi in the city on Sunday August 7, a girl passed away unexpectedly, after consuming fish fry. She has been identified as Sushmita (17), daughter of Manjunath, a resident of Devinagar, Pachchanadi. She was a second PU student of a college in Vamanjoor here.

In all probability, she succumbed due to the adverse affects of some poisonous toxins which got produced when the fish was being fried.

Reportedly, the girl had fried two fish in refined oil, before consuming them. Within a few minutes, she fell unconscious. She was taken to a nearby clinic and treated. As her condition did not improve, she was being shifted to A J Hospital, Kuntikan in the city on Sunday afternoon, when she breathed her last.

Sushmita’s maternal uncle, Jayaprakash, filed a complaint about Sushmita’s unnatural death with the rural police station here. He also has request the police to ascertain the exact reason for her sudden demise. The rural police, who have registered the case, said that the mortal remains of the girl would be subjected to post mortem on Monday.

    Its a very sad news.
A follow up report will be very much appreciated. There is no poisonous fish in our coastal region, that is not very well known.
The news is of great interest to all of us, fish-eaters.

Its not fish that killed the girl, but the oil used could have been contaminated with some poisonous stuff. Let the autopsy clear the doubts. Let the departed soul rest in peace...

May her soul rest in peace. I feel something wrong in oil and not in the fish. Or Some poisonus fell into oil, while cooking or before cooking.

It is so sad news & first time incident i am hearing that while frying fish occured. Anyway prevention is better than cure. Its always remember 3 points before consuming fish. 1. Always select consumable fresh fish. 2. Do not use old many times used oil. 3. Make proper ventilation for strong toxic smell and fumes to  get out from the kitchen.

'poisons' and 'toxins' mean the same thing, it's as wrong as saying 'sufficiently adequate'

    VERY VERY SAD INCIDENT.

BUT SURPRISE TO SEE THAT 'FISH' IS THE CAUSE OF DEATH?

    MY VIEWS ARE:

    1. WE HAVE TO SEE THE HEALTH CONDITION OF SUSHMITA BEFORE THE CONSUMPTION OF SAID FISH.

    2. QUALITY OF OIL BEING USED.

    3. ANY OTHER SUBSTANCES LIKE LIZARD ETC. MAY FELL INTO TAWA & UNNOTICED BY HER.

WE CANNOT COME INTO CONCLUSION THAT FISH IS THE ONLY REASON FOR DEATH.

There is no mention of what variety of fish the deceased consumed. There are many poisonous varieties, which could have proven fatal. However, if somebody else who also ate did not get affected means, she could have died due to a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) which almost always results in immediate death. May her soul RIP!!
