Mangaluru, Aug 25: The expansive 104-acre Plastic Park located at Ganjimath is slated for inauguration in January 2024, as announced by Bhaghwanth Khuba, the union minister of state for chemicals and fertilizers, new and renewable energy.
Minister Khuba conducted an on-site inspection of the plastic park's progress on Friday, August 25.
Minister Khuba stated, "Several plastic production units are earmarked for establishment, alongside the Sipet College. By December, the essential infrastructure, including roads, drainage, electricity, and college buildings, will be finalized. While it was expected that approximately 70% of the work should have been completed, the actual progress stands at a mere 15%. There is an urgent need to augment the workforce of engineers, contractors, and labor to expedite the park's construction. I have also issued directives to officials to ensure the project's swift progression."
The project is targeted for completion by December, with the inauguration planned for January. Minister Khuba affirmed his commitment to closely monitor the project's monthly progress and expedite the resolution of any land acquisition challenges. He attributed the inception of the project in Mangaluru to the efforts of Nalin Kumar Kateel.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel acknowledged, "Ananth Kumar played a pivotal role in bringing the plastic park project to Dakshina Kannada. Minister Bhaghawant Khuba, in the face of the project's potential relocation from the district, successfully championed its continuation in Mangaluru. The inauguration in January holds the promise of generating employment opportunities for the youth."
Present at the event were MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, deputy commissioner Mullai Mugilan, zilla panchayath CEO Dr Anand, and other dignitaries.
