Bengaluru, Aug 26: The KSRTC management has decided to install a panic button and GPS tracking system in buses for the safety of women passengers.
Pressing of a panic button in the bus will send information to the central control room of the KSRTC, whereby the control room personnel will alert the driver and conductor. In addition, a GPS system will help track the vehicle and information will be given to the local police station.
As per information relayed by a senior official of the KSRTC, this decision was taken in a recent meeting. The cost of the project would be Rs 30.74 crore.
Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy said, “All 8000 KSRTC buses will have premium and non-premium buttons with GPS system. This project will have two-third funding from the union government and one-third by the state government. Control rooms will be established in Bengaluru.”
