Kerala opposition not to take part in video tape re-examination

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 9 (IANS) After raising a banner of revolt, the Left opposition in the Kerala assembly has decided not to take part in the re-examination of the video footage on the voting that took place in the assembly on July 20.

This examination was taken up by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy when leader of opposition V.S. Achuthanandan after the Finance Bill was passed in the assembly last month, said an examination of the video footage would reveal that the Chandy government managed to pass the Finance Bill through bogus voting because they did not have the required majority.

The examination Wednesday at 4 p.m. will now take place with just the party leaders of the treasury bench with the Speaker G. Karthikeyan overseeing the examination process.

Karthikeyan's office confirmed that irrespective of the presence of the opposition, the examination would take place as scheduled.

The Left opposition Tuesday wrote to the Speaker that it is too late for a re-examination and alleged that there could be a possibility of fudging also taking place.

Chandy took up the challenge of Achuthanandan and wrote to the Speaker to see that an examination is done and asked the entire opposition to cooperate.
