Udupi, Sep 2: Union minister Shobha Karandlaje opined that one nation, one election is the solution for the stoppage of development works due to repeated elections.
Speaking at the press conference at Manipal on Friday September 1, Shobha said, “We feel that elections should be held throughout the country at a time as development works are affected three to four months in a year due to elections. In Kerala, elections of rural and city local bodies are held at the same time. If the parliament and assembly elections are held in similar manner, it is possible to save time, effort and money. There is no need for opposition political parties to get scared. I do not know why they are opposing this proposal.
“All parties campaign for elections. However, the voters choose their leaders. In some states, including Karnataka, many issues have happened due to free schemes. If free schemes are given to everyone all will be happy. But it is not right to snatch from some people and give the same to others.
“The judges and teachers of Karnataka have not received their salaries. Money for many projects is not released. Even social security schemes have run out of funds. The Congress is thinking that if guarantees are fulfilled, it is more than enough. The state’s contribution to Kisan Samman scheme of the union government is stopped. The chief minister should look into the losses incurred by the private bus operators and also KSRTC.
“Digital India has created one more record. The UPI payments have reached Rs 1000 crore in 2023 there by creating a new milestone. We can remember Congress economist P Chidambaram ridiculing the idea of Digital India in the parliament in 2017,” she said.
