Railways likely to start Vande Bharat train between Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram?

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 4: The Ministry of Railways is all set to begin Vande Bharat Express train between Mangaluru and Tiruvananthapuram as per information available.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has requested the railways to extend the Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat train up to the city.

People's representatives of Kerala and railway officials are not too keen to extend the Vande Bharat train to Mangaluru as the train that runs till Kasaragod now is already overcrowded. Kerala has jumped to the numero uno spot in terms of railway revenue in the country.

People pay three times more to travel in Vande Bharat train for the same distance. However, railway sources say that the ministry is studying a proposal to begin a new train that runs from Mangaluru to Thiruvananthapuram.

According to available sources the new train is likely to leave at 5.20 am from Mangaluru and reach Thiruvananthapuram at 1.30 pm. It is then expected to  leave Thiruvananthapuram at 2 pm and reach Mangaluru at 10 pm.

Currently in Karnataka, Vande Bharat train services operate between Mysuru-Chennai and Bengaluru-Hubballi. But no new trains have been introduced on Mangaluru-Goa-Mumbai route as passengers are not available as per the railway sources.

Already 36 trains are running between Kerala and Mumbai via Mangaluru. But there is a shortage of passengers on these trains from Mangaluru to Goa and Mumbai. Even on Mangaluru-Madgaon train there are not enough number of passengers.

Nalin Kumar Kateel says, “I have submitted a request to the railways to extend the Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat train to Mangaluru. I do not have any information with regards to the new Vande Bharat between Mangaluru and Mumbai.”

The trains originating from Mangalore to Mumbai are full and getting tickets is not a easy task. The via trains from Kerala to Mumbai might be having less passengers. The Goa passenger train originating from Mangalore central at 5:30 am might be going empty or less passengers because of the time and getting to the station at that in Mangalore is a task. Do we need a Vande Bharat train from Trivandrum? Let Nalin do his job only once in a while just before the next years election.

The proposed second Vande Bharat(VB) between Mangalore and Ernakulam can be extended to Udupi or Baindur. This will greatly help students in Manipal and pilgrims going to Kollur Mookambika temple. Mangalore - Bangalore VB won't happen as there are speed restrictions in the ghat. Mangalore - Goa will not have enough patronage Mangalore - Mumbai is our best bet. Mr Nalin and other MPs of Konkan and Canara coast can pressurise the railway minister

Are you suggesting that there are no passengers available for the Vande Bharat train from Mumbai to Mangalore? This seems rather incredulous coming from railway officials. The Konkan Railways is consistently in high demand, and obtaining tickets can be quite challenging

First of all there is nothing called Mangalore lobby. Secondly Mangaloreans don’t need train to Kasaragod or Kerala. The demand is from the Mallu lobby. People of DK & Udupi need trains towards Mumbai, Pune and beyond where thousands from the twin districts work and live.

If at all the existing Vande Bharat is extended to Mangalore or a new train is introduced to Trivandrum, it is all owing to the pressure from the Mallu lobby and not due to Nalin’s efforts. Why can’t he ask for extension up to Goa or a new train to Mumbai? I hope he is aware that native people from twin districts travel more towards Goa – Mumbai and not to Kerala.
