Kasargod: Mangalore Air Crash – Dependents Term Air India's Appeal 'Inhuman'

Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, Aug 13: Recently, the families of the victims of 2010 Mangalore air crash had succeeded in obtaining a decree in their favour from Kerala High Court for payment of compensation of about Rs 75 lac for each of the crash victims. National Aviation Company of India Ltd, which operates the Air India flights, has gone on appeal against this verdict.

In a press conference, the representatives of the dependents of the crash victims, who are aggrieved by the new stand taken by Air India, accused the aviation company of betrayal and inhuman attitude in filing the said appeal. They noted that the state High Court, while considering a petition filed by Abdul Salam from Kumble, had ordered on July 20 this year, to pay one lac SDRs, which is equivalent to about Rs 75 lac for each of the deceased.

The aggrieved noted that union minister for civil aviation, Vayalar Ravi, spokespersons of Air India, and various other leaders had welcomed the High Court verdict. In this backdrop, they expressed surprise and shock at the sudden decision of India to go on an appeal. They demanded for the withdrawal of the appeal, and to pay compensation as ordered by the High Court earlier.

Kerala Association of Travel Agencies vice-president, N A Sulaiman, dependents of some of the victims, Kalingon Narayanan, Habib Ullal, Abdul Salam Kumble, and Pramod Nileshwar, were present at the press conference.

Air India is already running on huge losses and living on borrowed time. The employee's salaries are getting delayed for 2-3 months. It reportedly incurs losses of crores of Rupees every single day.

But, here it is strange that after announcing that they are not going to contest this HC judgement in the apex court, they filing an appeal again for a 3 bench hearing. Nanavati cannot be blamed at all because he is a professional lawyer and doing the job for his clients. The law of the land is the same, both for the rich and the poor so no one can stall AirIndia from contesting the judgement. If the case indeed has no merit then sure the judgement will come in the next of kin's favor, why not wait for sometime instead of going the illegal and forceful way!! We have got an excellent apex court who will sort out the matter on a fast track basis!! Victim’s kin should have patience if they want very good compensation!!
