Sullia, Aug 13: A person who falsely projected himself as a director of movies, and succeeded in luring girls from Gadhinagar in Bangalore to come with him to Subrahmanya by offering roles in his future films, was arrested on Wednesday August 10 from Subrahmanya in the taluk, it is gathered. The activists of Hindu Jagaran Vedike, who grew suspicious about his movements, had tipped off the police.

He had booked rooms in a private lodge here, along with the girls who had accompanied him. Some locals, who doubted his genuineness, made enquiries. A local named Yatish, who had acted in a minor role in a recent Kannada movie, identified him as Latif from Nelyady, who used to prepare food for film shooting units.

After this information was passed on to the policemen, Latif was summoned to the station. The youth confessed that he used to sell newspapers at Uppianady bus stand, and that he had later started running an auto rickshaw at Nelyady. It is said that the policemen found photographs of over 150 different girls in his possession. He was arrested, and a case was registered. Investigation is on.

The girls, who had come with him, were counselled and sent back. District convenor of Hindu Jagaran Vedike, Kishore Shiradi, addressing a press conference in relation to the above incident on Thursday, accused some people of enticing Hindu girls into prostitution in Hindu pilgrimage centres. He blamed the policemen of not taking stringent action against the guilty.

Local Hindu Janajagruti Samiti president, Prashant Manila, Monappa Manad, Rajesh Kulkunda, and some others were present at the press conference.
