Dubai, Aug 13: The biggest ever women's only 'Puja' committee comprising of more than 50 members irrespective of caste, conducted the 'Shri Varamahalakshmi Vrutha Puja' at JSS Private School Auditorium, Sh. Zayed Road, here on Friday August 12. The event was witnessed by more than 1,000 devotees from all around the UAE.  This is the fourth consecutive year that this vibrant 'Puja' has been organized.

The 'Maha Mantapa' made of flowers and fruits was erected by Rajesh Kuthar and his team and contained huge pictures of Vishnu and Ashtalakmi on either side made by Ganesh Rai. The Puja was conducted by Purohit Raghu Bhat. Bala Salian and his wife Laxmi Bala Salian did the rites on behalf of the committee and all the devotees. The chanting of 'stotras' like Mahalakshmi Ashtama and Ayigiri Nandini which went on as per the religious formalities.

The 'Thulasi Katte', decorated with a 'Rangoli' of flowers looked spectacular with lamps lit all around it.  The ceremony began around 3.30 pm with decoration and lighting of lamps.  All the women who had been fasting on the auspicious day chanted the 'Vishnu Sahasranaama' which went on for 40 minutes.

The 'Vara Lakshmi Vratha' is celebrated on the Friday before the full moon in the month of 'Aadi' which corresponds to the English months of July-August. It is a festival to propitiate the Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, one of the Hindu Trinity. In Hindu faith, it is believed that Lakshmi will enter the house of anyone who seeks her blessings.

The various teams of five women each, responsibly conducted the event and ensured its smooth functioning.

There were three 'bhajan' teams lead by Mogaveers UAE, Padmashaali UAE, and Thaayi Bhuvaneshwari Jebel Ali who presented 'Abhang Bhajans (ntitya)' soulfully.

Rajarajeshwari Bhajan Mandali received all the teams and was a part of the continuous bhajans on behalf of the Varamahalakshmi committee.

The Puja concluded with the 'Mahamangalarathi' followed by non-stop 'Aarati' songs rendered by the group. It continued with 'Shobhane Sumangali Araadhane', 'Kannikaaradhane', and 'Brahmanaradhane' one after the other.

The 'Kannikaradhane' saw three little girls - Thanushree Mahesh, Pranjal Jethendra, and Adithi Gopal - seated on the pedestal for the formalities.

The Nrutya Rupaka called 'Sumanasa Vandita' was presented gracefully and appreciated wholly by the devotees. The bhajan groups were felicitated for their participation and soulful presentations.

Raksha Bandhan was also celebrated and the ladies tied 'Rakhi' on the wrists of their 'brothers' praying for their long life and happiness.

Ganesh Rai, former president,  of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, explained the process and eternal gains of the special Puja.

The 'Mahaprasada' distribution was unique with all the devotees seated on the ground and served food on a banana leaf with sumptuous mouth watering vegetarian delicacies including 'Payasa' and 'Jilebi' served by the women.

pooja was really grand.abt ganesh rai's speech his concern was right but the example he had given every one should think abt that.in church & masjid praying method is totaly different. there is pin silence. but in VMP there were lots of noise of gante, jagate, shanka, taala, tabala etc.bhajan & dance programe was there.volentiers were dancing around tulasi.in that situation how kids can control themselves. its difficult to the parents make their kids sit in one place quietly for three to four hours.all of us have children & we know kids are kids.

SAFETY of our children should be given prime importance while attending public functions. I have a prime exapmle for this. Backhome in India, in a similar function and situation, children were let to play and suddenly there was a smoke and lights went off. People ran here and there without knowing proper exits. I could see nothing but heard loud noises of children screaming for their parents and parents in turn calling their wards names. It was a panicking situation for a while, for God sake, power came and everyone were relaxed. We hear lot of incidents like many people die of stampede etc all this may happen in a gathering if something goes wrong. For all these reasons, while attending public functions, parents should descipline their childern to be safe with them. Anything may happen wrong in the crowd, our children's responsibility in such occassions will be prime importance. This is what the exact message conveyed by Mr Ganesh Rai. He did'nt shout at children, in fact he gently advised to the parents. One child was about to touch the fire lamp, he jumped to the scene, picked up the child and handed over to its parent, who was simply sitting in chair without any aware of what his child was doing.Hats of to you Mr Ganesh Rai, please keep continuing good work, sometimes one or two persons may make unavoidable comments as they are ignorant or misleaded. Your service is very much important to our expatriate community. Trust you will take all comments positively. Many thanks.

    @ Mrs. Shashikalla..
According to me Ganesh Rai he expressed just his view. That is our wishes to adopt or accept implementation what ever he said. May be you are hard follower of Ganesh Rai, I am absolutely not agreeing your comment that “we should respect, accept and follow” that is each individual truly personal to follow, respect and accept it.
So many people say so many things, but we will consider what ever we felt good. So please be matured and forget any one comment which has made you uncomforted.

I very well remember the speech of Shri Ganesh Rai during Satyanarayana Pooja organized by Mogaveers UAE. His speech was excellent & his advise most precious/valuable.
I personally respect & follow his advise sincerely, also I myself have learnt the fact from that day, of not letting our children to play during religious/auspicious functions
& involve them to participate in these festivals/functions.

It is our responsibility and duty as parents to see that our children participate. Other than their studies, extra curriculum activities, our children must participate sincerely/actively/passionately/whole heartedly in all our festive/auspicious occasions.

Lastly I would like to say that Mr. Rai always conveys valuable messages, which we should respect, accept and follow.

I wish to make a note of comments by Roopa Shetty, Mangalore/Dubai, Mr. Ganesh Rai is the man behind every programme in Dubai with his hidden contribution, it is obvious that his generosity, soft and down to earth nature along with treasure of talent with him is very difficult to match with. Having said few words by him, that too good for the community and society, taking into heart by an individual is simply not acceptable. He has tried to highlight and importance of discipline and decency required in the public but not targeted any one. As I know Mr. Ganesh Rai, he has mass support for his views and love towards our culture, art and country as a whole.
I wish all the team members of Varamahalaxmi Pooja Committee members for the grand success and it is a team effort.

Dear Roopa Shetty your comment not acceptable. May be Ganesh Rai request, is heart you and some parents. He requested keep the children in disipline manner in the pooja venue. Try to learn how to teach our culture to the younger generation. Please dont make pooja venue as kids play area. We are not agree with your comment.
