Haveri, Sep 16: Gangavva, a native of district, has won gold medal in England in blind cricket for women. She is the vice-captain of the Indian blind women’s team.
Gangavva Neelappa Harijana, a resident of Shishuvinahala village of Shiggavi taluk of Haveri, is the girl who has made name in blind cricket for women.
She was trained by Samarthanam cricket training centre at Bengaluru. She is the vice-captain of the Indian women’s team.
Gangavva was instrumental in India’s win over Australia in BAS games that were held at Birmingham in England. She hit numerous fours and sixes in the game.
She practices cricket on road with children as there are no facilities in her home town. Her parents have urged the state government to help her and encourage her talent.
Family of Gangavva is in dire straits. Her father is no more and mother is the lone bread winner. Gangavva wants to study further and stand on her own feet.
