Udupi, Aug 15: Myriad of colours came alive at the Mahatma Gandhi Statium, Ajjarakadu here on Monday August 15 as the district celebrated the country's 65th Independence Day with grandeur.

Higher education minister Dr V S Acharya flagged off the celebrations and honoured achievers in various fields.

A variety of cultural programmes reflecting Indian tradition were presented by school children, which added colour to the most important day for Indian citizens.

On the occasion Acharya lauded villages including Karkala taluk panchayat, Bola Gram panchayat, Maravanthe Gram panchayat and Belapu Grama panchayat for earning the credit of being clean and hygienic.

He then announced the various developmental plans designed by the government for the overall progress of the district. He also read out the budget allotted by the government for implementing various plans. Important among them was the plan for tourism development. Almost three crores have been set aside to develop the tourism sector of the district, he informed.

The Indian flag has three equal horizontal bars (saffron, white and green) with a blue Dharma Chakra (the wheel of law) in the center. But in the first picture I see a blue color instead of green. The concerend people should take care of these things. I hope the teachers know what these colors represent.
