India suspends visa services for Canadians over 'operational reasons'

New Delhi, Sep 21 (IANS): India has suspended visa services for Canadians "till further notice" amid a massive international row over Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's claim that his government has intelligence linking New Delhi in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

A notice by BLS International - an online visa application centre said, "Important notice from Indian Mission: Due to operational reasons, with effect from 21 September 2023, Indian visa services have been suspended till further notice. Please keep checking the BLS website for further updates: BLS India Visa Application Centre."

The update on Thursday came after a Punjab-origin NIA-wanted gangster Sukha Duneke was also shot dead in Canada's Winnipeg in an inter-gang rivalry.

Sukhdool Singh, alias Duneke, was part of Khalistan movement in Canada. Duneke, an associate of the Devinder Bambiha Gang in Punjab, escaped to Canada in 2017 on forged documents.

On Wednesday, his name figured among the list of 43 gangsters released by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which sought information about his illegal properties.

His murder on Wednesday night is similar to the killing of terrorist Nijjar in inter-gang warfare in Surrey in June.

On Tuesday, diplomatic relations between India and Canada nosedived over the killing of Nijjar. The same day India expelled a senior Canadian diplomat based here in a tit for tat move giving a similar reply to Canada.

The High Commissioner of Canada to India (Cameron Mackay) received summons on Tuesday during which New Delhi conveyed its decision to expel a senior Canadian diplomat currently stationed in the country.

The concerned diplomat has been officially instructed to depart from India within the next five days, a statement issued by the MEA said.

"The decision reflects the Government of India’s growing concern at the interference of Canadian diplomats in our internal matters and their involvement in anti-India activities," the statement said.

The decision came after Canada had earlier expelled a high ranking Indian diplomat.

These developments have occurred after Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday in an emergency statement in Parliament accused the Government of India of involvement in the fatal shooting of Nijjar.

India has rejected claims by the Canadian government that it had an involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India has dubbed the charges as "absurd and motivated".

May be a very good bold move by my India,Bharat. This news got me thinking about visiting another country during winter break this year. Why run to India always. Those who want to come to Canada are still welcome. Canada Govt will not be foolish to cease visa issuance . In years to come Canada will be exporting drinking water. I personally know three young students from kudla trying to make a life here in Canada. They are not going back to Kudla , come what may. Yes ,they all come to study in Canada But how many are willing to go back to India??Primary Intention is to escape the life back home and start a new one here and studies a reason. How Canada looked after it's citizens, businesses, and rendered good care to the sick during covid is something to write home about. Air India offers free flight changes, after visa to India is shut. That will not help me Change my mind . Next vacation to srikanka. I do not think Canada will go bankrupt if Indian students stop coming. Who is going to be the winner, remains to seen. Watch Canadian tv channels to know what Canadians of Indian origin are saying and not saying for fear ifAI and Face recognition technology . Lers wait and see whose Loss will be heavy.

Both India and Canada need each other, fighting between these governments will only hurt the peoples on both sides. Both countries should put a team to sit down as friends and see the concerns of each other. The Khalistan movement in North America has been gaining momentum and only with the co-operation of both governments can friendly ties resume.

Hope this ttoforptat started by India in response will stop soon; Canada's Trudeau seem to have geared for a fight on two fronts: china (ongoing) and now India which never happened before. This row should have been settled by soft diplomacy if the US (which is on Canada's side) wants a counter-weight for China. As for safety of Indians, the only question arises when white racist elements go after brown coloured Indians and Pakistanis - in addition to the blacks who they can easily recognize on the street, But all Indians and Pakistans, whether visitors, residents or citizens appear to them the same; they call them all PAKI, even in schools..... India should scrap OCI and PIO; grant Indians dual nationality just as Canada does. And do not meddle.

irrespective of whether any Canadians want to visit India, this action by the Indian govt is very apt and needs to be supported. Mr Junk Turdy needs to get off his white supremacist pompous "behind" and stop being all moralistic and preachy. It is nobody's secret that his position depends on the Khalistani parties and he has to sing their tunes. If he is so desperate for a Khalistani homeland, why not carve a part of Canada and establish it there itself? He can be the lifetime president as well. For all those with kith and kin or themselves in Cananda or future Canada prospects preaching here saying India should be moderate and talk it out etc, I say, nonsense. If not for stealing talented people from all of the subcontinent and thirdworld, Canada would have been nothing but an icy wasteland with sparse population scattered here and there. Without the immigrants, the nation would have gone waste. You guys went there for the milk and honey, this is part of the milk and honey. Deal with it. Don't whine and expect India to bend its head for your selfish reasons. Those days are over. If you have any sense of love to your birth country, stand together in Cananda and tell Turdy that he is the one who needs to see the reality and pipe down. If Turdy thought that making such a wild baseless allegation against India would make us come running to him, he is mistaken. I am shocked that one of the commenters here actually believes our complicity. The Khalistanis are bumping off each other in their gang wars and Turdy is trying to pin it on India to score political brownie points at home and shockingly there are people in India to even believe the Turdy is correct.

Canada is a favorite education destination for Indians because, it is true that faculties are good and so also the research output and reputation thereof. These faculties have nothing to do with Khalistan. I am sure, they have nothing to do with JUSTinder Brar Trudeau either. But Trudeau wants Khalistani votes. Canada has to choose between, Indian students and Khalistani votes. Either way, it is fine. Please remember that students do that work, which the faculties direct and derive credit for the work conducted by students as much as students. And finally, let us say if Indian student pipeline runs dry, what will happen to the glory of Canadian Universities? Canada does not have 1.4 billion population. Canadian economy cannot match with India's. Canada has no history with manufacturing either. Justinder has just fallen to a grave he himself dug; he knows, five eyes know and G7 also knows. I hope with him, Canada wakes up from slumber and calls spade a spade. Last but not least, if our organizations have developed competency to hit at will across globe, I will be proud of them. I am not convinced that our organizations have developed that competency. Trudeau is unnecessarily celebrating our incompetence by getting under ISI drug influence...called Khalistan.

Canadians don't come to India anyway, but Indians go to Canadian universities, and pay hefty amount of fees . Indian students add 6 billion dollars pure cash every year to the Canadian economy. As the Indian students are exploited by earning low wages, Canada's inflation is kept on check. Also the numerous business houses set up by Indiansin Canada . The exports from Canada to be considered as well. I'm waiting for Canada to do 'tit for tat'. Do it Turdy and see the fun.

Thank god this stop visa services may help to prevent too many flooding Indians to Canada. Indian should stay in India rather migrate North America and Europe. Indians are hard workers. If so much love for its own country then work in India and make a living. Why bother other nations for its own issues and put peace loving nations into all these mess. Politicians are temporary but nations are permanent so respect nation and continue. I. If Indians stop going to Canada then world has lots of populations to travel to Canada which is one of the safest countries on this earth to live and earn. Which also has best social services. Free education and best pensions too many population of one nation in any foreign land like Canada create mess like these problems. It is worst thing for Canada and india both. Alwyn, Kudla, you are partly true. Canadians don't enjoy democracy in its real sense as Trudeau is a highly corrupt dictator, in fact duplicate of our Chowkidar. Trudeau has destroyed prosperous Canada into a third world country by keeping the border open for illegals to enter the country. Corruption, looting, shooting, breakins and Car thefts are sky rocketing. Anyone wants to go to Canada should remember Canada is not a Western Country anymore and their medical system is also very poor. Example an appointment with a Neurologist can take upto 4 years! An MRI can take a year to get. India is far advanced comparatively.

It is agreeable that External Ministries should have fair and equal opportunities to express their view from both Countries. I agree that Canada can not interfere in our internal matter. But when a Prime Minister is giving a statement there could be a small element of truth some where. With out fire, there will not be smoke. Hence, we should try to stop this issue without it getting worse and situation should not be getting out of control & allow it to explode.!! My fear is as below : a) How many Canadian origin Indian Citizens do we have in India? Versus how many Indian Origin Canadian Citizens are in Canada? b) How many Indian Students are studying, applying for Canadian Student Visas? Versus how many Canadian students do we have studying in India ? c) How many Indians visit Canada for various purposes & many occasions versus how many Canadians visit India? d) Some day if Canada decides to send all Indians back to India, what happens to all of them and what happens to our country's economy? e) If India stops visa services for Canadians and if the reciprocal decision is taken by Canadian Authorities, what next for those thousands of our students aspiring to study in Canada? Instead of tit for tat or playing revengeful politics, both countries should sort out this indifference. Hope peace prevails soon.!!

An Ego battle has led to this fiasco ---- The G 20 was meant to bridge countries -- India spent one full year -- meaning MODI Govt - -( Not clear how much time effort was spent in the whole year -)--- BUT all know for the two-day event filled with Tamasha -- Young Girls made to dance at airport -- to receive dignitaries etc. etc. Hotels etc --etc -- Rs 4000 crores was spent -- Prime Min Trudeau did not get the respect he deserved -- It was a very poor. -- Diplomacy -- added with jingoism --incl 2 days the Canadian PM -- was stuck due to aircraft issues etc. -- and there was mockery by TV channels over this -- So, when he has gone back a major diplomatic fiasco has happened -- INDIA need to show restraint -- MANY students possibly with borrowed money have gone to get better education in CANADA and likewise many migrated for a better life with all their savings - Now most important no escalation and there are foolish TV anchors -- writers etc. -- in social media trying to aggravate who have nothing to lose- they have to be asked to put bandage over their lips -- and stop typing foolishly -- or texting --

I support Canada in this matter. It is important to respect human rights and protect individuals from harm, regardless of their nationality or political beliefs. No one should be subjected to violence or assassination in a foreign country simply because they oppose a particular regime. It is crucial to promote peace and dialogue to address differences of opinion. Regarding the comparison between Canada and India, it is worth noting that Canada has a higher per capita GDP compared to India and good quality of life.

Actually these killings are a result of inter gang rivalry which basically originated in Punjab. Karnataka and Goan and Mumbai Christians are sprinkled all over Canda. The only community which is multiplying rapidly is Muslims due to extremely high patronage from the highly corrupt drama teacher Trudeau for vote bank.
