US senator meets Kashmir governor, chief minister


Srinagar, Aug 16 (IANS) US Senator John McCain, the losing presidential candidate in 2008, Tuesday met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after arriving in the Valley on a two-day visit, an official statement said.

During their discussions lasting for about two hours, McCain and the governor exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.

Vohra hosted a lunch for McCain and other members of his delegation.

Northern Army Commander Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik and 15 Corps Commander Lt. Gen. S.A. Hasnain were also present on the occasion.

During his meeting with the chief minister, matters relating to the socio-economic development and protection of environment were discussed.

McCain, who is the vice chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee and the Republican candidate against US President Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential election, was assisted by his two advisors, Christian Brose and Vance Serchuk, and First Secretary (Political) Paul Narian in the US embassy in the meeting.
