Mangaluru: Man arrested for defrauding fish sellers’ federation

Mangaluru, Sep 22: Manjunatha Kharvi, who is alleged to have cheated huge amount of money to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi fish sellers’ federation is arrested by the police.

Manjunatha had purchased fish from the federation but did not pay the money. He also kept the commission that is due to the federation from the sales of fish pending. Three cheques given by Kharvi to the federation got reportedly bounced. A complaint was filed in the court for the same reason.

Three cases were filed and fifth JMFC court of the city ordered Manjunatha to pay Rs 88 lac to the federation. However, Manjunatha failed to pay the money. An arrest warrant was issued in the name of the accused.

Manjunatha was arrested on September 20 by Kundpaur police from his residence at Uppunda. The magistrate sent him to judicial custody. Raghavendra Rao and Gauri Shenoy of Veritas Legis association of the city argued for the complainant.
