Udupi, Sep 24: In a remarkable display of honesty, Satish, a member of the autorickshaw owner-cum-drivers' association, has returned a passenger's cheques and important documents that were accidentally left behind in his vehicle.

The incident took place when a passenger named Anant Devadiga, the son of Anant Devadiga, forgot a cheque worth Rs seven lakh and crucial documents inside Satish's autorickshaw during a trip from Manipal to Udupi on September 18. Recognizing the significance of the items, Satish promptly reported the matter to Vijay Puthran Hirebettu, the president of the association.

Subsequently, in the presence of the Manipal police, the cheques and documents were handed over to Anant Devadiga, with Chief Secretary of the association, Santhosh Shetty, and other notable individuals in attendance.

While appreciating his honesty; from another point of view; if it was cash or gold, outcome could have been totally different; what one can do with these cheques and documents? In Mumbai majority of lost documents including passports are returned by ordinary post (without stamps) to the owners address, but minus the cash and other valuables, believe it or not!
