Mangaluru: Online frauds in property registration at city sub-registrar office on the rise

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 26: We know of hundreds of cases when online fraudsters have cheated people asking for OTP after calling the victims. However, more shocking is the fact that tricksters are siphoning off money by just using the biometric thumb impression, that too in government offices.

Following the government announcement to hike property registration fee with effect from October 1, members of the public are rushing to get their properties registered. In the meantime, fraudsters are having a field day with them becoming active while using government offices to cheat the public.

One needs to give a thumb impression for Kaveri 2 software in the sub-registrar’s office. After giving the biometric thumb impression, Aadhar documents are entered into computer and the registration process proceeds further. However, many people who have given their thumb impression in the sub-registrar office of the city have lost lacs of rupees from their accounts.

Complaints have been filed with the police in this connection. Police are verifying the issue at the sub-registrar’s office of the city. However, the police were clueless as the central control of Kaveri 2 software lies in Bengaluru. It is said that the issue has cropped up as Kaveri 2 software was implemented in haste.

Complaints of cyber fraudsters activating the Aadhar and misusing the payment mode are increasing. Cyber fraudsters are using new technologies to transfer funds online. There is no need for any OTP pin, CVV or bank details. If biometric fingerprints are used for any process fraudsters manage to loot a maximum of Rs 10,000 from bank accounts using unauthorised biometric equipment.

Fraudsters are cloning fingerprints from Aadhar cards and siphoning off money from the bank account without the knowledge of the citizens and that too without a OTP pin. The public need to be alert in such cases and download mAadhar from playstore and lock their biometric parameters.

In the last three weeks, 25 cases have been filed with CEN Police station Mangaluru city.

Went for registration of property and in the bargain lost all the savings from the bank account, without sharing any account details, OTP etc.; if this is possible, then it's a very serious issue for the common citizens to be worried about!!

In your main bank account , disable all online transactions and give a letter in writing to the bank authorities, take an acknowledgment for the same. Keep a separate bank account in a different bank for online and debit ( not credit) card, with minimum balance. Use cash for small amounts and demand draft for bigger amounts. If aadhaar is used for linking you get a sms and email alert , in case the transaction was not done, it can be stopped immediately. Lock your biometrics in aadhaar.

It's important to approach such discussions with sensitivity, as they involve complex issues related to governance, technology, and national development. this could be the act of old agents in a new avatar .

The only way to be safe from this scam is to lock your biometrics using mAadhaar app an unlock it only when needed...a bit like how you temporarily block/unblock your debit/credit card for usage using the bank's mobile app to prevent unauthorised usage of the card online/offline.

It's high time for all the citizens in India to fight the evil and crooked IT thieves, by not adhering to any compulsion for On Line Transactions. Cheque payments only for any and all commercial transactions, small or big, Government or Private. That should be the principle and all loopholes must be blocked for On Line Transactions even for On Line Shopping from those Purchase Websites such as Amazon, FlipCart and AliBaba where many innocent people get cheated. The Police can only apprehend criminals, but its the Judiciary that keeps them alive and going about their evil business, and are certified as History Sheeters! No Government can force a citizen to support this crooked IT industry with On Line Transaction, if its serious about containing these criminals for good. IT fraudsters must be hanged immediately without trial by our lethargic Judicial system. Statistics show that the Government of India has no Zero Tolerance to Cyber crimes and eliminating such criminals, only big empty talks! The government is to be blamed in India that have fallen for this evil IT industry that is not regulated, nor a death sentence for on line fraudsters. Please use cash transactions only, and in-office registration, as in India, the Government employs millions of people who are paid high salaries for doing nothing, whilst the Indian Government and this PM is encouraging everything to be On line and Electric! The old ways are good and were good before the onset of the evils of IT industry. IT Technology, which has sadly robbed many people, and Cyber Crime Police is not able to contain this nuisance nor be a step forward.

One of the biggest faux pa by whosoever has hastily implemented this card without a large scale pilot test! Today Moody's too has come out with a report on this card's vulnerability, which is available in the public domain! Innocent people will now have to roam around with this Damocles sword on their necks (bank accounts etc) whenever they have to use it or give biometric details!! The above is a very personal view with information that is available in the public domain; kindly do your own research and analysis!!
