Mangaluru, Sep 29: The customs officials here at the international airport seized smuggled gold worth over Rs 87 lac in separate incidents.
In the first incident, a passenger was caught by the customs officials here for trying to smuggle gold worth Rs 10.54 lac. The passenger had arrived from Dubai on September 27. As the officials searched his bag, they found 176 grams of 24 Carat gold. He had concealed the gold in an air pods, mobile phone charger and wrist watch. The passenger is taken into custody by the customs officials.
In another incident, three passengers arriving from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Mangaluru in different flights on September 26 and 27 were intercepted after they crossed the green channel. As a result of frisking, scanning of handbag, scanning and open examination of carton box and detailed interrogation of the three passengers, gold of 24 carat totally weighing 1273 grams worth Rs 76,50,730 was recovered from them. The said gold objects in the three cases were concealed in the rectum, air pods and height adjustable pipe of the toy scooter. One passenger was taken into custody.
