Beltangady, Sep 29: The police here arrested a notorious inter-state thief in connection with stealing gold ornaments from a house at Ujire.
The accused arrested is identified as Umesh alias Umesh Balegaara (47), a native of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. He stole 173 grams of gold ornaments from the house of Felix Rodrigues, a resident of Ajit Nagara of Ujire on August 12. Beltangady CPI Nagesh Kadri, DySP Gaurish and team tracked the accused to Hunsur in Mysuru and apprehended.
The gold ornaments that were sold are recovered by the police. Umesh is a notorious thief. He used to visit houses on the pretext of selling cloth and note whether there are people inside the house or not.
Umesh began crime at the age of 14. He never used his mobile phone and asked for others’ mobile phones in case he has to call someone. This was making police difficult to trace him.
Umesh has already served jail term in several cases. Police of four states were searching for him since many years.
During interrogation, it came to light that he has stolen valuable from various houses under the limits of Puttur city police station, Sullia, Bantwal, Bunder police station in Mangaluru, Urwa, Moodbidri, Kasargod, Kumble, Palakkad, Trissur, Thiruvananthapuram, Selam, Dharmapuri, Kanyakumari, Dindigal and Vizag.
PSI Dhanraj, Chandrashekhar, Tilak, Shivaram, Bennicchan, Sundara, Palanivelu, Pramod, Ibrahim, Sampath, Charanraj, Ananda and Sampath were in the team that arrested accused Umesh.
