Mangalore, Aug 20: Four college students, who had hired a room in a lodge in the city, were arrested by the local police on the night of Thursday August 18. The policemen confiscated 100.2 grams of hemp (ganja), Rs 5,390 in cash, in addition to six mobile phones from their possession. The value of ganja recovered from them has been put at Rs 2,500.

The arrested students are, Seeyar, Mohammed Rishin, Munsheer, and Rashid. They have been booked under various sections of the Intoxicating Substances Act. They were produced in the court. Reportedly, one of the accused, Seeyar, told the policemen that the ganja in their possession was supplied by a person named Jason. At the same time, he feigned ignorance about the whereabouts or address of Jason.

It is learnt that all the above students hail from Kerala. The raid, conducted with the support of the policemen of Barke police station in the city, was led by assistant commissioner of police (city central division), Ravindra Gadadi.

This incident could be related to the robberies in Surathkal, Mangalore and robberies in Karkala.

Students needing drugs badly commit robberies to get money to pay for drugs.

Also, robbing shops at 3am in the morning is a sign of drug influence.

These students are definitely not locals and friends should come forward and inform local police before the friends get into serious trouble.

Ganja was available in town even 30 yrs back. Congratulations to police and they have done the rightful act.

police also give instructions to all hotels, lodges to inform them , if they find any suspicion about youths booking room. Simple, more than one person means there might be something fishy. Informing police an their strict action may reduce the illegal activity. At the same time police personnel also should be clean, without bias and act as per the civil norms.

Police should speed up the to nab the drug supplier Jason and his God father too.

Wish our State will one day complete free from SMOKING. Awaiting for the day, when State will bring legislations for banning Smoking .

@Nagesh..Police have an authority to conduct such raids because they are authenticated through our Judiciary. But the Bhajrang Dal & Rame Sene have no authority to conduct such raids. May be they are doing good/bad job but unless they are legalized they are not supposed to take the role of Police. Right now RS & BD are doing a crime..

Hey - I love this guy Nagesh who is so popular. He seems to like the word pseudos a lot - but every time he spells it, he transposes letters U and the E. Do these two words have two separate meanings ? I just wonder - and he can't get out of certain words in his vocabulary. This guy is quite amusing -

Seems like no one interested to comment on this article, neither bothered to comment, because its police who arrested. Its a responsible of every citizen of the country to arrest everyone who influences/leads the civil society in illegal manner. If there is any terrorist activists in the society Everyone say in one voice CIVIL SOCIETY should support police. But when is come to issues like rave party, hemp etc.. these people shut their mouth and react adversely. Look at Where the Youth heading towards. If among these 5 students, any of yous sisters included still u say Society should keep quite till Police get the information and make a actual raids ???

Mr Nagesh Nayak, you are confused and are surely ignorant. Why should people comment when police arrest culprits? It is their job. BUT it is not the job of BD and RS. They cannot take law into their hands. Nobody has given them authority. They have no rights over other people what so ever. Do you understand the difference? When a dog bites a man it is not a news item. But when a man bites a dog it becomes news. As simple as that. Hope you understand.

WHAT'S UP GUYS? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS? NO DOUBTEDLY THEIR OWN PARENTS AS WELL AS TEACHERS (THIS IS ALSO ONE KIND OF CORRUPTION). NO CONTROL OVER NEW GENERATION AT HOME AS WELL AS IN SCHOOL-COLLEGE. IF THIS HABIT WILL CONTINUE, THEN HOW WE CAN HAVE A CLEAN GENERATION TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY IN FUTURE. STUDENTS, NEEDS TO GET GOOD EDUCATION AS WELL GOOD GUIDENCE FROM PARENTS & TEACHERS. WE CAN'T DEPEND ON ANNA-HAZARE ALONE FROM NOW ONWARDS.
