Bantwal, Oct 4: Five pairs of identical twins studying in the same class of the high school section of Sajeepamooda Government Pre-University College and High School of the taluk are now cynosure of all eyes. And their classmates are fully confused.

Five pairs of twin students are studying in class eight in the high school section of Sajeepamooda Government Pre-University College and High School of the taluk.

Ayesha Zeeba-Khatija Zia, Shranavi-Jahnavi, Fatimat Kamila-Fatimat Samila, Ayesha Raifa-Fatima Raula, Dulaikat Rufida-Halimat Rafida are the pair of twin students studying in the same class.

Among the five pairs of twins, one pair belongs to the Hindu community and the remaining four pairs belong to the Muslim community. That is not all. They are all studying in the same class of the same school.

As twins are often identical in form and activity, there are instances when teachers and their classmates are sometimes baffled. It seems that sometimes there are situations where classmates get fooled.

There have been reports of these kinds of twin children in different schools of the district, but probably this is the first school in Bantwal taluk with so many of them that too in the same class.

It is also noteworthy that all the five pairs are female students.

Everyone hopes that these students who are together will bring glory to the school.

There are many such mysterious places with this twin birth phenomenon around the world; in India, the most famous is a remote place called Kodhini village in Mallapuram district of Kerala; till date, nobody has been able to unlock this twin birth mystery, in localised places!! Also similar looking, totally unrelated, people (termed doppelgangers) seem to be having the same DNA profiling, which is much more mysterious!!

Genetic predisposition is one of the causes of twins, so we find localization. Same DNA profiling in unrelated is because probably they are really related, I am not elaborating...

In the Kerala case, they have found that this phenomenon started 60-70 years ago; top genetic experts from India and abroad have not yet been able to unravel the mystery!

Monty; in the case of doppelgangers, the inference is:::In a growing population, there’s bound to be some genetic overlap just by happenstance. “Because the human population is now 7.9 billion, these look-alike repetitions are increasingly likely to occur”

@ Rudolf, Also in Kerala, perhaps the same place, a few years back there was a Christian wedding of twins, twin brothers married twin sisters. Interestingly the priest who solemnized the marriage was also a twin. These are rare of the rarest coincidences.

May be that year was of twins, may be there are even more from that same area but in different school, they should make a survey and find out what was common factor between their parents that resulted in twins. Or was it gods blessing during that particular year
