Dubai, Oct 4: Dr Thumbay Moideen, founder-president of the Thumbay Group, was recently recognized with the 'Icons of UAE' award at a gala event held in Dubai, UAE. The award was presented to Dr Moideen by Dr Shashi Tharoor as part of the prestigious 'ICONS of UAE' Awards & TV show, an initiative by the India Today group in collaboration with NKN Media.

A man of vision and dynamism, with a determination to succeed, Dr Thumbay Moideen (founder president of Thumbay Group) is recognized for the various achievements to his credit. Born on March 23, 1957, Mangalurean by birth, Dr Thumbay Moideen, a third generation entrepreneur was raised in a traditional family with a business background. Today, his name is synonymous with professionalism and positive approach. Taking to business at the age of 21 years, he demonstrated his business acumen from the very start.
In the year 1998, he established the Thumbay Group in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). From starting-off with humble beginnings by setting up the UAE’s first private medical university, the Gulf Medical University (GMU), his business ventures under the flagship Thumbay Group, today, stand tall as a testament of a long and distinguished success story-with core focus in the health professions education, quality healthcare delivery, wellness and research across UAE. This year, the group completed 25 years of its operations, and the Gulf Medical University marked its 24th anniversary and the group’s first teaching hospital, Thumbay Hospital Ajman, celebrated 20 years of its commitment to redefining healthcare services in the country
