Kasargod, Oct 4: The Kumble station police have arrested a man accused of fatally smashing the head of a murder charged and disposing of the body in the bushes.
Abdul Rashid (42), a resident of Kumble Shanti Palla, was the murder accused who was allegedly killed by Abhilash alias Habib (34). Police received information that the enmity between Rashid and Abhilash, who were once friends, was the motive behind the murder.
Rashid had been accused of killing Shan Vas, a resident of Uliathadka, on October 18, 2019, and disposing of his body in a well. Rashid's lifeless body was discovered in the shrubs at Kumble Kuntageradka ground premises on Monday morning. There had been altercations between the two men under the influence of alcohol on Sunday night. Police were informed that Habib had used a stone to strike Rashid in the head when he fell to the ground, causing his death, and then discarded the body in the shrubs.
Rashid, who had previously been arrested in connection with the Shan Vas murder case in Kasargod and was in judicial custody, had later been released on bail. He had begun living in Kumble Mavinakatte quarters and was working in cementing. It was during this time that he became friends with Abhilash. Both of them were seen riding a motorcycle on the day of the murder, according to eyewitnesses. Abhilash had gone into hiding after the murder. When the incident came to light, police became suspicious and arrested him from an abandoned house in Peruvad, questioning him. Police are currently investigating to determine if anyone else was involved in the crime.
