Mangaluru, Oct 5: Hundreds of street vendors gheraoed the office of the commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Thursday October 5, accusing the authorities of delay in issuing certificate and identity card.
The street vendors accused that the commissioner is not doing any works related to the public since three years. They said that the certificates and identity cards are not renewed. In addition, they also said that the commissioner speaks lowly about them.
Honorary president of street vendors’ association, B K Imtiyaz said, “MLA Vedavyas Kamath is directly responsible for this situation. The officials of the MCC are delaying the issuing of renewing licence and identity cards to the street vendors due to the pressure exerted by the MLA. The MCC commissioner has paid Rs three crore bribe to get his position.”
In the midst of these accusations, the commissioner counter accused the office bearers of street vendors’ association that they are cheating the street vendors by taking a bribe of aRs two lac.
