Bantwal, Oct 8: A young man found himself in a life-threatening situation when he accidentally fell into the waters near Thumbay dam while fishing. Despite the strong current from the dam, he managed to swim for two hours and ultimately saved himself with the assistance of fire service personnel. This incident occurred on October 2.
The youth, identified as Irshad and a resident of Bolantoor, fell into the water around 8 pm. At the time, five out of the dam's 30 gates were open, resulting in a powerful water current. Although Irshad is a proficient swimmer, the force of the water made it difficult for him to extricate himself.
For two harrowing hours, Irshad managed to stay afloat. Fortunately, the dam's staff heard his cries for help and, upon investigation, spotted him struggling in the water. They immediately alerted the police and fire service personnel, who successfully rescued him from the perilous situation.
