Mangaluru, Oct 8: Fr Maxim D'Souza from St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu, expressed the significance of the Alcoholics Anonymous program as a means to overcome drug and alcohol addiction during a 'farewell' event organized by the Alcoholics Anonymous team at Maria Jayanthi Mandira on Sunday, October 8.

Fr Maxim highlighted that parting ways with alcohol and drugs is not a painful process; rather, it brings smiles and happiness to many faces. The event aimed to demonstrate that quitting alcohol and drug use is indeed possible. Alcoholics Anonymous, with 65 years of experience, has played a crucial role in liberating individuals from addiction and creating a positive societal change. Fr Maxim emphasized that alcohol can lead to enslavement, robbing individuals of their positive thoughts.

He encouraged individuals to lead a joyful, addiction-free life and stressed that personal reform can have a ripple effect, transforming the entire society.

Hemacharya, the managing trustee of Ian Cares Foundation and director of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, expressed his happiness at witnessing people who have overcome drug abuse and joined the event. He shared his own experience of initially consuming alcohol while abroad but ultimately quitting after a life-altering incident and the support of his wife.

Hemacharya now runs the charitable foundation 'Ian Cares Foundation,' which aims to help youth overcome issues related to alcohol, drugs, and depression with the support of donors and friends.

During the event, two individuals, Rajesh and Harish (names changed), shared their personal stories of battling substance abuse, highlighting how they successfully overcame addiction and now lead prosperous and happy lives.

The program commenced with the dignitaries waterering a sapling.
