Kundapur: Unauthorised protein centres to monitor weight on the rise in city

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapura (MS)

Kundapura, Oct 8: Centres that sell protein powders to increase or decrease body weight are mushrooming everywhere. Six such centres have suddenly mushroomed in the city as well.

People who do not have any health issues are also falling to the sweet words of people running these centres. They go to the centres to consume the protein powder. The centres advise the gullible citizens to do meditation for 10 minutes and then exercise for some time before consuming the protein powder.

These centres open early in the morning and have their sales target completed by 10 am. They are also sold online. People who bring customers to such centres also get commission. The matter of concern is that Kundapura has also many such centres.

Unauthorised powders are being sold in the name of protein powders for improvement of health. Modern medicines have approval from central medicines quality organisation. But these powders are projected as food products and avoid strict measures.

These protein powders are sold for Rs 700 to 7000. Agents get a commission on the sales of these powder boxes. The sale of these is going on unabated.

Retired army officer Captain Govardhan says, “There is a doubt that steroids and banned medicines are mixed in these powders. Though these seem to improve health temporarily, in the long run they are detrimental to the overall heath of individuals. Food safety officers and medicine controllers should verify these products.”

Dr Nagesh, physician, Government Hospital Kundapura says, “If vitamins and proteins are consumed in excess, they have ill-effects on the body. Unscientific methods should not be used to reduce or increase weight. Consumption of these powders will lead to kidney and liver failure. People should take expert opinion before using such products.”

This is a big racket (MLM) of selling anabolic steroids and other harmful content containing powders, which spontaneously increase weight, basically by increasing the water content in the body; the contents of these powders contain chemicals, which can cause grave damage to organs such as kidney and liver! BTW, some of these steroids are also available on prescription as tablets and injections for certain medical conditions; but these too are illegally bought by many gym owners and clandestinely given to the clients! These illegal powder selling centers should be sealed with immediate effect; there are also cases of people suffering from severe heavy metal poisoning after consuming certain ayurvedic supplements for chronic diseases like diabetes, weight gain etc., available onlinee. The sellers and subagents get very lucrative cuts and gifts on sales!

Less food intake only brings the body weight down. Physical work & walking will keep your blood inside the body moving and will keep you healthy. Nothing else. Prayers, Celebrations, community gatherings, Local sports & entertainment will give mental & emotional health. For some people overweight is normal and it is God given and no one can change it, Our forefathers were poor landless farmers & had less to eat, had to walk & work for survival and lived long. Rich prosperous Jains, Landlords & merchants had short life and their numbers had decreased.
