Puttur, Oct 9: A mechanical engineer has found success in the arecanut leaf industry making varieties of items like eating plates, box for soaps, ice cream cups and spoons.

Sri Krishna, a resident of Madavu in the taluk is the youth who has achieved success in this industry. The leaves of areca nuts that are fallen on his farmland and also that of his neighbours are the raw material that Krishna uses for his industry.

Though many are selling plates made of arecanut leaves, Krishna produces 60 different products from the same raw material.

Sri Krishna manufactured machines for various kinds of products by himself. Various kinds of arecanut leaf products that are manufactured in a remote village of Madavu in the taluk are sold to outstation states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat. They are exported to countries like America and Australia also.

The industry has provided employment to local women also. The courage shown by Sri Krishna has made him a successful entrepreneur and also provider of employment to the rural folk.
