Mangalore, Aug 22:
This park in city could well be categorized as unique. Exclusively for women, 'Vanitha Vana', the new park at Hat Hill here is a perfect place for housewives, grandmothers and granddaughters to relax, or for working women to unwind after a busy day.

The 1.5-acre park was inaugurated by minister Krishna J Palemar on Monday August 22. Free from vehicular traffic despite being located in the heart of the city, the park promises to be a popular hangout among the city's womenfolk.

This is the first such park in the city, providing complete privacy to women who can relax and let their hair down. The park will also act as a stress buster for women who would like to spend some time alone.

Speaking on the occasion Palemar said that the park is indeed the first of its kind in the state. Stating that there was a need for more number of parks in the district given the increasing population, he said that steps will be taken to earmark vacant government lands and convert them into parks.

MLA Yogish Bhat said that a counselling centre for women will also be set up at the park. "This is a much-needed park for women in the city. With 465 metres of jogging path, the park also has women police personnel guarding the area, thus ensuring complete safety and security for women," he said.

Zilla panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash said that there will be free health checkup for women at the Ayurvedic centre in the park. "More constructive works will be taken up in the second phase, like setting up of a radio house and a musical fountain at a cost Rs 25 lacs," he said.

Palemar, Yogish Bhat and MP Nalin Kumar agreed to allot Rs 2 lac each for the park from their respective funds.

Mayor Praveen and deputy mayor Geetha Nayak were also present. Senior journalist Manohar Prasad compered the programme.

Mr. Palemar, Mrs. Boremeo and team...I don't understand by doing this whom you are going to please. It's become mandatory for us to accept whatever you do which pleases you only and not us Mangaloreans. You people go and see the Simon Road, opp. Capithanio School by an auto and then tell us where you should pay your concentration. First do what is necessary. Our repeated pleadings about this lane goes to deaf ears of the concerned people. Many senior citizens and sick pople are suffering here because even autos refuse to come even if we pay more. And you people went to please women.. I feel like laughing.

No much use to poor Women community. Instead work on strong bill/law against the attrocities/exploitation on poor class women. Corruption is not the only issue in our country.

Good initiative, park needs some sprucing up and regular maintenance. As for Romeos loitering as mentioned in the comments, by nature's law as long as there are Juliets, there will be Romeos too.

India is leading among the nations of the world, as a nation in the attacks on women and in corruption.
It is great that the women can
have a park where they can walk
without the fear of the anti-social
men. But it is an open march
backward. If the women and men can't make use of a park peacefully, we must be totally
ashamed of ourselves. It is very
sad that a few human being can create bad name for the whole
    section of the society.

First of all congrats to our people of Dakishna Kannada, Mangalore is moving forward, but sad to say Udupi is moving backward both once a single district, Great job by the Mangalore politicians and the people alike even travelling in a more developed place in mangalore is cheaper then Udupi I mean by auto, Udupi Mininimum is RS. 20, and that with rough auto drivers, and some places like hospitals, supermarkets when they see people are in need the price goes up to RS. 25, nothing is done the administration have the unions in their pockets so no law is done, both Mr. Bhat, and DR. V.S. Achar are busy on inaugrations hope something is done, dividing the district has brought more misery then gain

Wrong and outdated concept in modern times. This is suitable for countries like Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan. God made human beings as man and woman, both sexes complementing each other. It might look like a novel concept to start with but bound to fail and fade away in the long run.
