Udupi, Aug 22: The new block at St Mary's College, Shirva, will be inaugurated on Thursday August 25 at 9.30 am, informed correspondent of the College Fr Stany Tauro while speaking to the media on Monday August 22.

He further said that Mangalore Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza will preside over the programme and Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon will inaugurate the new block.

Catholic Board of Education (CBE) administrator Fr Wilson L V D'Souza and Father Muller Charitable Institutions administrator Fr Richard Coelho will be the guests of honour on the occasion.

St Mary's College was founded by Fr A Rosario in 1980 with the aim of fulfilling the academic aspirations of rural students in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The College made rapid strides under the administration of Catholic Board of Education (CBE) and Our Lady of Health parish, Shirva. The faculties of BBM and BCA were introduced in 2005, prior to which there were only BCom and BA streams.  Later, MCom and MSW too were introduced.

The College, apart from a highly-qualified faculty, has state-of-the-art library, a seminar hall equipped with LCD and other hi-tech facilities. It prepares students for IAS, KAS and other competitive examinations. The College also organizes feasts of different communities to promote harmony.

The College is accredited B grade by NAAC. It has NSS, NCC, commerce, literary and women's associations and IT clubs which contribute to the overall personality development of the students. The College is also equipped with Internet facilities for students. Mid-day meals for underprivileged students are also offered.

Congratulations Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro and all the people concerned with St. Mary's College. We are proud of our mother parish growing as a nice education hub. It was the vision of Msgr Hilary Gonsalves who started St. Mary's High School which played a major role in educating the people of Shirva. Rev Fr. Aloysius Rosario who started English Medium School and later St. Mary's College are the significant milestones in the history of Shirva. All the best .
