Kuwait: BSK enthrals audience with Billava Chavadi 2023

Kuwait, Oct 11: Billava Sangha Kuwait (BSK) left the audience mesmerized with Billava Chavadi 2023, on September 29 at Aspire Indian International School, Auditorium 2, Abbasiya. The main attractions of the event, Tulu comedy drama ‘Itte Gottaapuji’, the cultural events and the beautiful Dussehra themed Reception was appreciated by one and all.

The programme commenced with Guru Pooja followed by Kuwait and India National Anthems. Prayer song was rendered by Sanskrithi S Poojary and the most awaited cultural programme was inaugurated with the lighting of lamp by the presidentSushma Manoj, chief guest Nikhil Kumar – second secretary, embassy of India, Ramdas Nair – head of retail sales, BEC Exchange Company, Aji K R – president, Saradhi Kuwait and BSK management committee members. Release of Souvenir ‘Billava Bolpu’ was done in a very unique way by Master Nish in the form of tiger dance. President Sushma Manoj then welcomed everyone with a humble speech which was followed by a welcome dance by Shine Venugopal.

 

The sponsors of the event were felicitated, main sponsor – Rebla Glass, gold sponsor – Salmiya Clinic, silver sponsors – BEC Exchange, Annapoorna Veggie Restaurant and George Alwyn D’Souza & family and co-sponsored by Malabar Gold & Diamonds. It was followed by the felicitation to the chief guest Nikhil Kumar, Ramdas Nair, Aji K R. drama artistes Lucy Lobo Aranha and Ashwini Pinto. Johnson D’Almeida and drama director Mahesh Poojary Polali were felicitated. Guest artistes Karthik Kumar Kadekar and Vikram Manchi were honoured with a shawl, flower, fruits and memento.

Farewell was given to Gautham Suvarna, founder member of Billava Sangha Kuwait who worked as general secretary, joint secretary, PRO, treasurer and welfare officer. In his speech, he wished BSK good luck for all the upcoming events and ensured that he would be committed to BSK even from his native place, Mangalore. Farewell was also given to Hrishikesh Kotian who is the present treasurer of the association. The chief guest of the event, Nikhil Kumar in his speech, spoke about unity and integrity of the nation and gave his best wishes to Billava Chavadi.

The cultural programme began with the group dances and dance skit along with Tulunadu’s traditional tiger dance. All dances were performed by BSK members and their children, receiving good appreciation by the audience. Dance choreography was done by Sudha Sandesh Amin, Kavya Prashanth and Krishna Poojary, while the dance skit was conceptualised by Ghanshyam Attavar.

The artistes of Billava Sangha Kuwait performed the much-awaited Tulu super hit comedy Drama ‘Itte Gottaapuji’. Drama was written by Vikram Manchi and directed by BSK member Mahesh Poojary Polali. Vikram Manchi kept the audience in splits with his comedy timing while Karthik Kumar Kadekar thrilled the audience with his perfect music timing. Guest artist Lucy Lobo Aranha – famous Tulu & Konkani cine and stage artist played a vital role fascinating the audience.

The cast included local artist Mahesh Poojary Polali, Amarnath Suvarna, Rajesh Kukian, Ashwini Pinto, Mithun Vishwanath, Sujeet Amin, Sujith Kotian, Preeti Shailesh, Johnson Dalmeida, Jyothi Sudhir, Gautham Suvarna and Sudhakar Poojary, while it was well supported by Sushith Kukian. Sushith Kukian also ably managed the lighting for the drama.

The programme was beautifully coordinated by cultural secretaries, Rajesh Kukian and Mahesh Poojary while sound and lighting was done by Waves Events and Rentals. The videography and photography was done by Gireesh Benance, Shiju Manjali and Biju Ninan. The backdrops and the stage settings were effectively handled by Sathish Acharya, Amarnath Suvarna and team, while the souvenir artwork was done by Manoj Kumar. The widely admired reception was arranged by Sandeep Kumar Attavar, Amith Sanil, Soumya Suvarna and team, while the technical team was ably handled by Raghav Poojary, Charanraj Suvarna and Dhanraj Poojary.

The event was gracefully hosted by Purandara Manchi, well assisted by Tina Govind. The welfare officer, Charanraj Suvarna read out the welfare activities while the vote of thanks was delivered by general secretary, Anish Kotian. The programme concluded with the announcement of the raffle draw winners, and by a delicious dinner.

The talent of BSK members were utilized in every part of the event including dialogues, direction, lighting, backdrops/stage settings, preparation of props and on-stage performance. The BSK management committee also thanked all the sponsors, well-wishers, committee members, members and all those who directly or indirectly contributed to the grand success of ‘Billava Chavadi 2023’.
