Doha: MCA Qatar holds free medical wellness camp

Doha, Oct 12: Mangalore Cultural Association (MCA) in collaboration with Wellkins Medical Centre organized a free medical wellness health checkup camp for the second year in succession here on October 6. The medical wellness camp was held at the Wellkins Medical Centre premises.

The free health check-up involved body mass index (BMI) calculation, blood pressure check, blood sugar test, HbA1c, lipid profile test etc. More than 150 people availed the benefits of the free medical camp.

Dr Sameer Moopan, chairman and managing director of Wellkins Medical Centre, Subramanya Hebbagilu, vice-president of Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) Qatar, Deepak Shetty, vice-president of Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), Qatar and Fr Preetham Mendonca, OFM Cap, a visiting Mangalurean priest, currently serving as a parish priest in St John, Mary Vianney Church, Nehru Nagar, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh were the guests for a brief official programme that was held during the day.

 

 

Aloysius D'Souza, president of MCA Qatar welcomed the guests and presented them with floral bouquets. Aloysius also highlighted the works and projects undertaken by MCA ever since its inception in 2008 and assured that it will continue organizing programmes and projects that will benefit the community members working and residing in Qatar as well the needy back home.

Dr Samee Moopan in his speech recalled his days back in Mangaluru and his long-time association with Mangalureans as a student of medicine at KMC Mangaluru. He assured that himself and Wellkins Medical Centre will always extend a helping hand to associations involved in spreading health awareness. Subramanya Hebbagilu in his address appreciated the initiative taken up by MCA in providing a platform to the people to avail health benefits through medical wellness camp. Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Shetty requested MCA and the gathering to spread awareness and avail the benefits of ICBF insurance scheme that provides a coverage of QAR 100,000 at a minimum premium of QAR 125 for two years. Addressing the gathering, Fr Preetham stressed on the importance of good health and called on the people to give more importance to maintaining good health and living a healthy life.

Dr Sameer Moopan was presented with a memento and a plant in recognition of his service in reaching out to people in creating health awareness and providing world-class health facilities at Wellkins Medical Centre at nominal cost. Sandeep Noronha, vice-president of MCA proposed the vote of thanks.

Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Qatar vice-president Shameen Lewis, MCA honourary members/past presidents Harry Lobo, Arthur Pais and Veena Pais, Wellkins Medical Centre COO Nikhil Joseph too were also present during the programme.

The entire programme was compered by Feola D’Souza.

In a press statement, MCA said it was grateful to Dr Moopan, Nikhil and other staff members of Wellkins and nurses and volunteers of MCA who contributed to the success of the medical wellness camp.
