Rajasthan, Oct 12: A former daily wage labourer is about to become an IAS officer as he has cleared the examination in 2022 and waiting for his placement.
A native of Bapi village in Rajasthan, Ram Bhajan Kumhara and his mother did not even have a facility to call as their home. However, now they will be assured of a roof over their head because of the 667 rank Ram Bhajan has scored in the UPSC examination of 2022.
Ram Bhajan was born and brought up in abject poverty and worked as daily wage labourer to support himself and his mother. Bhajan crushed stones for several hours in a day in order make ends meet. His mother used to carry the broken stones on her head in order to transfer them from one spot to another.
The daily target of stones for Ram Bhajan was 25 boxes. At the end of the day, he used to get a paltry sum of Rs five to Rs 10 for the hard labour he used to do. He could not even afford a lunch with that earning.
Bhajan’s father passed away due to Asthma during Covid pandemic. Before his death, the family used to sell the milk of goats for living. After the death of his father, Ram Bhajan’s family could not sustain raising the goats and began working in a stone quarry.
Bhajan got a job as a constable in Delhi police. While working in the police department, he took interest in UPSC exams and began preparing for the same in a dedicated manner and cleared the examination in 2022 in his eighth attempt. Now his family is living a decent life and waiting for his placement as IAS officer from a constable in Delhi police.
