Bantwal: Speeding car knocks down 23-year-old woman to death

Bantwal, Oct 11: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old pedestrian woman was knocked down and killed by a car on NH 75 near Kalladka in the evening on Thursday October 12. .

The deceased is identified as Paavana, a resident of Veeramabha village. She was employed at a scanning centre in B C Road.

Paavana was returning back to her village by bus after work. She had alighted from the bus and was walking along the side of the highway towards Heddaribadi, when a speeding car hit her.

The woman was thrown to the side of the road in the impact of the accident and the car turned turtle. The mortal remains of the woman were taken to Bantwal government hospital for a post mortem.

Melkar traffic police visited the spot of the accident and investigated. Locals have alleged that high speed driving on the concrete road is often causing such accidents.

    What I noticed is that the pedestrians are extremely careless when walking by the road. Busy with their mobile or walking as if it's their house.

    Majority of young Drivers in Mangalore and Udupi districts driving like crazy, as if there is no tomorrow for them, they hardly bother about the pedestrians , we could witness at least 2-3 death on the road due to reach driving , there is no end to it these kinds of accidents .

    Better to walk on front facing side of vehicles so that atleast you have chance to move yourself in case of any emergency. Poor Soul. May she rest in peace.

    very poor traffic and driving sense in third world countries..moreover, law is not strict in these cases of accident killings...if the driver is guilty they need to be given severe punishment with compensation to the victim and also cancellation of licence...but this will never happen in demo krazy countries..

    Blood money should be compensated to the aggrieved victims family as prevalent in the Gulf. Unless a law of this type is enforced, ruthless car owners will think they're doing a favor paying road tax .... the road is their father's property and they can drive their vehicles like Formula 1 Grand Prix racing tracks.

    Very sorry to hear this.May her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.Even normal walking according to rules also is not possible.Too many vehicles simply speeding on roads ,not driving but speed like racing car without looking right or left.Hope they have found the car and take the driver to task.His driving licence should be cancelled and arrest him ,put him behind bars.He should pay a heavy fine to her family.
