Solution in sight to end Lokpal logjam?

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS) There were indications Tuesday that backchannel contacts between the government and Team Anna had made some headway as talks were on at many levels amid concerns over Anna Hazare's failing health.

Team Anna also indicated that a "solution is possible in 24 hours" if the government has "political will".

Sources said senior ministers went into a huddle as the government faced heat both inside and outside parliament with the anti-corruption campaigner's fast entering its eighth day.

Opposition parties stalled parliament, forcing adjournment of both houses.

Sources said Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee held talks with senior ministers, including Sharad Pawar and Vilasrao Deshmukh, both of whom are from Maharashtra. They are said to be attempting some mediation between Team Anna and the government.

Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Parliamentary Standing Committee chief Abhishek Manu Singhvi to discuss the possible changing contours of the contentious bill.

An indication of efforts to end the impasse was that the government has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the Lokpal issue.

Swami Agnivesh also said unofficial talks are on with the government, while Kejriwal cautioned that there would be a major law and order situation if something happened to the 74-year-old campaigner.
