Mangaluru, Oct 17: Food department sleuths have raided a food outlet running business at Falnir without a trade license. The owners of the outlet have expressed anguish at the attitude of the officials who had to return after inspecting the hygiene maintained at the outlet.
The incident happened at the MFC outlet here. Officials who raided on the basis of complaints received from the building owners wanted to lock the outlet. However after heated arguments between the officials, the outlet owners and the lawyer on the spot, the health officials allegedly said that they had come to inspect the sanitary conditions and threatened to take legal action if they are not allowed to inspect the place.
They inspected the place and asked the outlet owners to produce suitable documents within the next 24 hours to prevent action.
N M A Siddique, the leader of the outlet owners alleged that the officials arrived in the company of welders and hired goondas. “Our shop has not violated any rules. The application for a trade licence submitted by us to the department is neither rejected nor accepted. We have been conducting business here since the year 2017. The officials have raided our premises after receiving bribes,” he said.
The health department officials in the Mangaluru City Corporation need to look into such allegations and obtain legal advice, he added.
