Mangaluru, Oct 18: A 23-year-old woman was mowed down by a car on Wednesday, October 18, in the afternoon while she was walking on the footpath with four other women near the Corporation swimming pool towards Ladyhill.
The deceased is identified as Roopashri, a resident of Surathkal and daughter of Gangadhar.
The accused driver is Kamalesh Baldev (57), a resident of Alake and a commission agent in real estate business.
The Mangaluru West traffic police have registered a case against the car driver Kamalesh Baldev who was coming from Mannagudda Junction towards Ladyhill.
The driver drove the car on the footpath into the five pedestrians including the deceased Roopashri.
The injured four of them are identified as Hithanvi (16), daughter of Mahadeva Kulal, second PU, Govinda Das College; Krithika (16), daughter of Yashwanth, first PU, Kateel PU College; Yaathika (12), daughter of Yashwanth, seventh standard, Holy Spirit School, Mukka and Swathi (26), daughter of Narayana,Hosabettu.
All of them were admitted to a hospital and later, reportedly discharged .
After Kamalesh Baldev, the driver ran into the five young women, he fled from the spot of the accident in his car and parked the vehicle in front of the Honda showroom before heading home.
Subsequently, Kamalesh Baldev returned to the Mangaluru west police station along with his father H M Baldev and surrendered to the police.
