Rs.2 bn for Pakistan Highway Projects

Islamabad, Aug 24 (IANS): A sum of Rs.2.3 billion has been provided to a highway authority in Pakistan so that it can continue working on projects across the country.

The Dawn said the funds will give the National Highway Authority (NHA) a brief respite from the severe financial constraints that it faces.

Officials said the authority has to pay Rs.26 billion in liabilities to contractors and lenders.

NHA chairman Syed Mohammad Ali Gardezi Tuesday said more funds were needed to continue construction work. He said shortage of funds had badly affected the work.
