Anti-Palestine post: Doctor of Karnataka origin loses job in Bahrain

Bengaluru, Oct 20: A doctor of Karnataka origin was rusticated for posting matters related to the war at Israel on social media platform X. Though he deleted the post and tendered an apology, he was asked to leave.

Dr Sunil J Rao is the doctor who lost his job. He was working at Royal Bahrain hospital. It is said that he posted against Palestinians on his X account.

In a statement, Royal Bahrain hospital said, “The status put by Dr Sunil Rao is his individual opinion. The hospital has no connection with his post. However, he has posted a status that is a crime to the society. Hence, he is rusticated from his position with immediate effect.”

Regretting his post on X, Dr Sunil Rao posted, “I regret my words and actions. I would like to apologise for the statement posted on the forum of X. I say that all lives are important as I am a doctor. In addition, I am in this country for the last 10 years and I respect the people and religion of this country.”

Many netizens are still expressing rage at the post of Dr Sunil, though he has apologised.

    When Palestinians and Israelites openly protested in USA and France they are not deported. Because that is a Christian country and have freedom of speech. In a Muslim country you have no freedom. Best thing doctor come back to India and serve your own people.

    I’m not being biased nor I’m being anti national - but there’s a change in attitude among Indians worldwide and the pride and arrogance can be seen in their body language. and they think no end of themselves. There’s nothing wrong in being proud but the pride should be of a positive nature with humility and not of being proud by showing off and thinking ‘ we are the best in the world’ and we are not indispensable.     my mind runs back to 2001 trade centre bombing...i was in dubai and many Indian lost their jobs who wrote on the attack...an order was passed by the govt of dubai....so when working in gulf countries chaddis should be careful to contain their emotions....it is not like venting out anger here in car street...i thing the doctor was enjoying his life in bahrain...everything is available there...now he is in soup...but no problem he can come back to make in India...the way he apologised shows that he has no intention of leaving bahrain....

    A sincere suggestion /advise to the Indians working in Arab countries/Abroad is to keep their mouth shut and avoid commenting on religion / or conflicts involving Muslims / ISLAM . Doing this They can land into prisons or loose their jobs . Now ,DOCTOR Sunil Rao has lost a quality job and a quality life which he was enjoying in Bahrain with a post ( What a silly way to loose a job) Palestine and its people have extreme sympathy among Muslims in gulf countries and among Muslims . Commenting or posting our suggestion against Israel or Palestine on social platforms will not benefit them but can make a serious change or trouble in our life in Arab countries .

    Worse ... he can't go to any Middle East countries or other overseas countries. The Middle East processes are very rigid and adopt this flimsy process of "blacklisting" the name so that he will never be able to enter into that country or for that matter any other overseas country in-the-near-future. Chances are there if he cancels his current passport and applies for a new one. But with technology, that chance is extremely slim since they have his finger print records, iris (eyesight scanning) and all those stuffs in their system which one cannot change and the personal details are instantly flashed all over the globe - more specifically through INTERPOL.

    In a conflict, both the conflicting parties feel they are right. Otherwise they do not enter into such a costly and devastating conflict. For others, it is just an individual perception that who is right or who is wrong. So no outsider can pass comments on an ongoing conflict.
