Mangalore, Aug 24: The annual feast of Blessed Mary Baourdy was held at Cloistered Carmel, Kankanady, on Wednesday August 24.

Jesuit priest Fr Santosh Kamath offered the festal Holy Mass along with Fr Biju Anthony and other clergies.

The Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified was declared Blessed by the late Pope John Paul II.  Blessed Mary Baourdy lived in Sacred Heart Monastery, Kankanady, from 1870 to 1872. Known to the cloistered carmels as the ‘little Arab’, She was also the first Carmelite to take her religious profession on Indian soil and that too in Mangalore.

Hundreds of faithful including parishioners of the city deanery attended the festal Holy Mass.

I am glad to read this newz & see pictures hoisted by DAIJIWORLD. Often when I come down to Kankanady Hospital, I do not forget to face this sister's convent and pray.

if in this world, if the Merciful Lord has cast his gaze on us, it is bcoz of the prayers, penance, sacrifice of people, such as these.

The pics. shown above, shows the seriousness of the people to renounce evil.

I pray to our Lord to hear the prayers, particularly to the people of Mangalore, and grant them peace & good health.

Thank you DaijiWorld. You are reporting truly inspiring messages, for our spiritial development.

Really great to see the faithful gathered to celebrate the feast celebration of Blessed Mary Baourdy. Sr. Jacintha looks just like Blessed Mary Baourdy as she is distributing scapulars to the faithful. I wish the Cloistered Carmel Sisters a great celebration and may this holiest place in Mangalore Diocese continue to inspire hundreds of thousands for prayer and contemplation. This contemplative charism in the Church may flourish through the dedicated life of these holy nuns who live a mortified, holy and disciplined life within the Cloistered. These nuns have done great service to the Diocese of Mangalore giving away huge piece of their property to Fr. Muller's Hospital. This property today is in fact invaluable. Wish all the best to the wonderful work of these nuns. Fr. Rudy (Madanthyar)
