Bangalore, Aug 24: Christian leaders led by Ronald Colaco, chairman, International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA), met chief minister (CM) D V Sadananda Gowda at his official residence on Wednesday August 24.

Higher education minister Dr V S Acharya was also present during the meeting.

Colaco submitted a memorandum to Gowda seeking further enhancement and all-round development of the state and at the same time creation of a good environment for communal harmony under his stewardship.

The memorandum sought constitution of a Christian Development Board, appointment of a chairman and 12 members giving due representation to different denominations of the Christian community and regions on priority basis, as five months have lapsed following the allocation of Rs 50 crore, even though there is a provision to disburse this amount through the Minority Development Board.

The delegation also urged the CM to instruct all concerned departments to expedite the process of withdrawal of cases against Christian youth following the Church attacks in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and other districts, for cabinet approval.

Colaco explained that IFKCA had been following up the matter for more than two years by meeting the former chief minister, home minister, higher education minister, principal secretary, concerned police commissioners, IGP, and various jurisdictional police station chiefs. The matter was also taken up with former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa during L K Advani’s attendance at a Konkani programme held in Mangalore.  As a result, the files pertaining to the cases have been dispatched from the office of the Mangalore city police commissioner on April 5, 2011 and are under review at the office of the additional DGP - Law and Order, here.

The CM stated that he would ensure the withdrawal of cases through cabinet approval on a priority basis. He stated that it was painful to hear every time that the unfortunate church attacks are connected to the BJP, even though the party never indulged in such heinous acts. Gowda said that some people with vested interests had joined Mahindra Kumar and attempted to tarnish the image of the BJP and now he has joined JD(S).

The CM assured the delegation that he would constitute the Christian Development Board very soon and appoint a suitable Chairman and members from the Christian community giving due representation to all.

The Christian delegation comprised Grace Pinto, managing director of Ryan International Group, Christian leader Felix D’Souza Taccode, Konkani Catholic Federation president Valerian Fernandes, IFKCA general secretary Michael Baptist, state convener Dennis D’Silva, other Christian leaders Rons Bantwal, Arun Mendes, Charles Gomes, Stephen Mendes, Nigel Colaco, Florence Mendes, Anil Rego, Ida D’Cunha, Agnes D’Souza, Udupi IFKCA president Louis Lobo, vice-president PrashantJathanna Stanley K, and Joylas Taccode.

The above news conforms that all files pertaining to withdrawal of the cases have been sent to the Additional DGP (law & order), Bangalore on 5th April 2011. However, on 22nd July 2011, I read that Bishop and his team met the Mangalore city police commissioner urging him for speedy withdrawal of these cases. If this has been already done in April, why did Bishop have to meet the city police commissioner 3 months later in July? Is Bishop trying to mislead the innocent youth involved in these cases? Meeting the city commissioner in July was not relevant he needs good advisors to help him address issues appropriately and timely.

Please do not have negative feeling about bjp. There are many good people in bjp and they visit church and worship. Keep your house in order before blaming anybody. The laity people should be given more power in church in desicion making. Those called religious people they are fundamentalists. We should have liberal attitude towards others.

I Have been observing from Daiji and other news paper reports the sincere efforts put in by IFKCA members in various social causes and problems faced by our society. Our gratitude to u all for you have sacrificed valuable time and money meant for your family & business with out expecting anything in return. Such an organization should have existed some 20 years ago, in which case we would not have had any problems including 2008 church attack. Thanks to Ronald Colaco for forming IFKCA at his cost and effort for the sake of our community

Hats off this Federation and the Chairman MR. Ronald Colaco for your continuous effort in getting the present government to allocate Rs 50 crores towards Christian development schemes for the first time in the history which no governments in the past had come forward in spite of our continues support in all Elections. Now your efforts in forming a separate Christian development board will go a long way in the Indian History. We all are grateful to present Government.

The Chief Minister promised to the Bishop's delegation on the 10th of this month that the cases charged
against the Christian youths for their defensive actions while the
    Churches were attacked by the
    street rowdies would be solved
    within the next 15 days.

Mr. Chief Minister, today it is
the 25th of August. As you have
promised while you took the office,
the files are not moving fast but
it seems like they are sleeping.

I am observing MR Ronald Colaco,IFKCA chairman, making several representation with past and present CMs of Karnataka.Every time a big smile and and assurances are given with regarding to the problem faced by Christian communities, especially the withdrawal of cases slapped against Christian Brothers while defending their place of worship.Yet promises remained as promises.Every time VS Acharya then Home and present education minister were present@ the representation by Christian Community with CM of KARNATAKA Govt. However, being Undivided Managalorei VSA, failed to convince top brass of the GOVT to withdraw the case against Christians are remained a mystery. As report says IFKCA president running pillar to pillar to get the issue solved but till date it is not happened. As DVS promised, he will seek cabinet approval on the issue which puzzles me because it was approved by Cabinet during time of Yeddy, I, guess.Reddy gang's criminal cases were withdrawn with no time waste by cabinet approval in which Reddyagarus, are accused, party to Cabinet decision!!!!!!????? unprecedented!!!!Hope this time around as CM DVS belongs to Mangalore,he might constitute Christian Development Corporation @ earliest and release development fund 50 lakh rupees which promised by Eddy in his budgetary allocations.
