Mangaluru: Health officials shuts down stall manufacturing ‘matka soda’ from polluted water

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 24: A video has gone viral of a stall that is making matka soda from polluted water in the fair that is going on at Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha temple. Health officials raided the stall and shut it down.

The video clearly shows that the matka pots are washed in polluted water, stall staff chewing tobacco, spitting it in water and using the same water for matka pot cleaning.

The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) health officials shut down the stall after the video went viral.

They also checked the cleanliness at other stalls in the Kudroli temple fair and warned them of closing such shops if cleanliness is not maintained.

Cynthia DK ;I am sure your immunity will be better -from it.My first question is how come they got the licence without inspection of the shop?May be some lacs?Or daily one soda? They have to get licence in princip.and checking now and then with sudden visit. Here they give a sudden visit without pre notice to see how hygienic is in kitchen ,in store room etikett etc. When found a small mistake ,first notice to clear it up.second visit if not done close immidiately .Fine and third close for ever.Licence is cancelled .Why these guys are not punished?secret? Here they check foreigners stalls or kitchens first mostly chinese.Because they know how clean are foreigners .

Since it has been widely reported that majority of open wells in Mangalore are contaminated with sewage water, thanks to our MCC; it's anybody's guess, how many eateries would be using some sort of filtered water in their eatable preparations, forget cleaning of utensils?

Sir/madam Why all this humbug. You want to see hygiene take a walk from Mescom office opposite jayalaxmi and Bharath mall.. officials will not crack down here you know why!. Come 5.00 pm everyday and watch Chinese food on roadside where they pee, vomit ( becos there is a wine store on both sides of the road frequented by north karnataka migrant labourers).OFFICIALS of the concerned department are least bothered having a reality check they will wake up only when there is a epidemic . People will be shocked to see the use of colour and tasting ( ajinomoto) powder usage forget the water ???? usage .

It's very sad. People should avoid drinking juices and sodas during fair. Please bring your own water and juice from home.

Health officials are taking their monthly pay for doing nothing. Every body in India knows how filthy eateries are in India, some openly provide unhygienic food and some in the kitchen. Why don't health officials get into doing their job. They should raid at least 20-25 food places randomly and take actions and if they don't meet their daily targets % of their salary should be deducted. Imagine this happening in countries like UAE/ Saudi. Which will never happen at first place. Even their fish market is better than Indian BMW/ Mercedes showrooms.

You rightly said, "Even their fish market is better than Indian BMW/ Mercedes showrooms." The question is, are these Indians ready to accept the truth, particularly the BBs?. They were educated through Whatsapp University that India is the most powerful, most efficient, most clean and most developed country since 2014. Before that every Indians were ashamed about India when they visit abroad. (remember that speech in Shanghai)

What about the eateries on the roadside, not only now during Dasara even otherwise? The health officials are simply there, only wake up occasionally.

Health officials should regularly visit restaurant / eateries and check and make sure they maintain hygiene and quality ingredients are used for food preparations . Any violators should be fined heavily . They need not wait for video going viral... what if video was not shot ? They would have continued as usual....
