Portugal, Oct 24: Bobi, the oldest ever dog on the earth died at the age of 31 at his home in Portugal on Saturday.

Bobi was born on May 11, 1992 as purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo and was recognised by Guinness World Record as the oldest dog ever to live on this earth in February 2023.

Bobi broke the record of Australian cattle dog Bluey who lived for 29 years and died in 1939. Bobi’s age was confirmed by pet database of Portugal government.

Throughout his life Bobi lived with his master Leonel Costa and family in the remote village of Conqueiros of Portugal. Bobi had three other pups born with him but they were put down as Leonel family had too many pets. Surprisingly Bobi escaped and continued to live in the rural home.

The calm rural life was the secret of the long life of Bobi according to his master Costa. Bobi used what the family ate and was never bound by chains.

Bobi was very healthy throughout his life. Only in 2018, he had some breathing difficulty and was treated in local pet hospital. However, prior to death eye sight of Bobi was weak and he could not walk too.

The general life expectancy of the breed of dogs to which Bobi belongs is around 12 to 14 years. Bobi not only outlived general expectancy for his breed but also went on to create world record. He had countless fans all over the world.

May his soul rest in peace. One thing I want to say is that dogs are not for everyone. Only if you are a true animal lover should you buy or adopt a dog. Many Indians, especially in Mangalore, get a dog just because their neighbor bought one, and they torture the poor animal by tying it up all day and not providing it with food. My family is like that. I asked my relative to please feed the dog good food, but they told me, ‘Anil, ignore it, it’s just an animal.’ For these folks, I would advise against getting a dog.

I agree with everything except, BUYING DOGS. You can't buy love just like that you can't "buy" pets. Anyone reading this comment please try to adopt pets rather than BUYING pets. These sellers literally abuse and torture animals to reproduce and sell them making huge profits. If you don't buy there won't be any demand! Please consider this comment! It's wrong to BUY pets! And if you're a true animal lover, please condemn anyone who's doing this business and anyone who wants to buy these fancy pet breeds!
