Mangaluru, Oct 25: A woman pedestrian was run over by a bike while crossing the road and died in front of Babbukatte Souza Electricals when the Mangaluru Dasara procession was going on.

The woman is identified as Yellavva Shivappa Doddamani (50), a resident of Lakhamapura in Bagalkote's Badami and wife of Shivappa Doddamani. Shivappa who works as a labourer and was working as a watchman in the late evening hours at a house.

His wife Yellavva had reached this place just two days ago to live with him.

On Tuesday evening at around 8 pm, she stepped out of the house to buy some groceries from a shop that was across the road. The accident occurred when the Mangaluru Dasara procession was passing through the road when a bike rider identified as Gagan hit the woman who was crossing the road.

Yellavva was seriously injured and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Deralakatte where she failed to respond to the treatment and breathed her last.

Due to the impact of the accident, the bike had travelled a few yards and skidded before hitting a road median as it came to a halt.

The bike rider Gagan and his pillion were injured.

Mangaluru South traffic police have registered a case.
