Patient Abandoned on Operating Table Dies


Beijing, Aug 26 (IANS): A man died of suffocation when he was abandoned by doctors on an operating table in a hospital in China, after fire broke out in a nearby room, officials said.

The 49-year-old patient was under general anaesthesia when the incident happened in Shanghai's Baoshan district, the Shanghai Daily reported.

The man was to undergo amputation surgery after a traffic accident.

Hospital officials said a fire broke out in a room next to the operation theatre. The cause of the fire and the reason why the man was abandoned while undergoing serious surgery were being investigated.

All the other patients were evacuated from the building.
