Pranab Appeals to Anna to Give Up Fast

New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS): Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the government's top interlocutor to resolve the stand off over the Jan Lokpal Bill, Thursday night urged Anna Hazare to give up his hunger strike and asked him to devote his energy in the service of the nation.

After parliament and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday appealed to Hazare to give up the fast, Mukherjee late in the night made his plea to the social activist.

"The parliament requested him (Anna Hazare) to break his fast and I do hope that he will respond," the finance minister said.

"We think that he should devote his energy in the service of this nation for many many years," he added.
