Anna Vs Govt : Rahul Gandhi Fails to Break Impasse

Daijiworld Media Network

New Delhi, Aug 26: There were huge expectations from Rahul Gandhi when he was given an opportunity by the speaker of Lok Sabha to present his views on Jan Lokpal Bill in the parliament on Friday August 26.

Political experts around the country felt that this could be the Congress' trump card to break the impasse generated by the Anna Hazare Vs government tussle. Indeed, Rahul did make an impact on the people by recognising Anna Hazare's efforts to fight against corruption, and thanked Hazare for articulating the sentiments of the people on the issue of corruption and leading the fight from the front.

At the same time, he said that Lokpal alone cannot eradicate corruption in the country. "One law is not enough to change the system, laws and institutions are not enough to fight corruption," he said.

He suggested that the Lokpal be made a constitutional body like the Election Commission.

He also took a potshot at Team Anna's intentions and said, "One must not weaken the democratic process. Any process divorced from democracy is a dangerous precedent - now it is corruption, tomorrow it could be a less universal issue, and then something against secular issues," he cautioned.

His speech was disturbed by the opposition throughout specially when he suggested that the election system in India should be government funded, which would help eradicate corruption to a certain extent during the elections.

However, the common people of the nation, who are eager to see a solution to end Anna Hazare's fast did not find Rahul Gandhi's speech as a game changer.

An engineering graduate who is at Ramlila Maidan who heard Rahul's speech said, "When we are asking 'one' he is giving us 'five', we do not need that. We need a solution to end the fast. Formation of EC kind of body is a welcome idea, but it surely needs another four decades to implement. What we need now is a strong Lokpal Bill where common people can live peacefully without being troubled by bribes."

Another lady who is in her early forties said, "Where was Rahul Gandhi for the last ten days? Why is he emerging now and giving lectures on something which is not possible right now? Look at the Congress party - ten days back its spokesperson Manish Tiwari accused Anna Hazare of corruption and today, Congress 'Prince' is thanking Anna for initiating the anti-corruption movement. This is nothing but hypocrisy," she said to a TV channel.

The tussle between the government and Anna Hazare continues on the last working day of the Parliament for the week. If no solution is found today, Hazare's fast might continue till Monday too. What Anna Hazare needs at the moment is a resolution passed by the parliament that there will be a detailed discussion in the parliament on Jan Lokpal Bill, and specially on these three points - introduction of Lokayukta in each and every state, adoption of citizens' charter, and getting the lower bureaucracy under the ambit of Lokpal.

I fail to understnd why are the congress leaders giving so much "Bhav" " to Rahul Gandhi. Whatever he says they listen. I was shocked to hear some of the leaders who are Rahul gandhi's fathers age call him "Rahulji". I know that congress leaders are cowards, but to reach to this level is shameful.

I think we must get the "future prime minister" tag off rahul ganhdi and see if there are any other leaders in the congress party who could be a potential contender for future prmie minister. Having said this, doesnt mean that rahul gandhi is not a PM candidate, but theres nothing wrong in having a look at other young leaders inthe congress party, rather than stickeing to rahul gandhi as "future PM of India".

It is pathetic to see the condition of the politicians today, be it the ruling or the opposition. Each one is so very selfish and once elected only knows the art of making money and do not do any thing which will help the country to progress further. The true character of our politicians is coming to light with their high handedness. Commenting on Rahul Gandhi I only see him as a chocolate boy face who only knows to pose for photographs with villagers in Uttar Pradesh, that too with an ulterior motive of gaining seats for the assembly elections. I feel enthused to see the youth (educated class) who have openly come forward in support of the anti corruption movement. First time I saw that the people of our country were Indians and not segregated on the basis of being from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu etc. I salute the anti corruption movement and hats off to the entire team of Anna Hazare. Mr. Thomas has commented about Jai Ho to Congress. Is it that we are favoring corruption knowing what the government has done till now. I would rather say Jai Ho to each Indian who has truly become aware of this movement. Jai Ho to the dabbawallas of Mumbai and the IITians and all the other people in spite of their professions have come forward in support of this movement.

    Dear Rohith, Bangalore,
Corruption is deep rooted our society in one way or the other from an individual's family till elected representatives & judiciary. Can you say all those supporters of anna are free of corruption??? People wanted bribe and give bribe to accomplish their jobs in a hide and seek without waiting. NOBODY WANTED TO WAIT.
We have our constitution and laws made by the elected representatives under the banner of the constitution. Nobody is above the law and the constitution.
Civil society cannot enact and dictate laws.
There should have complete discussions before passing the laws.
Opposition should be a constructive and not destructive.

I appreciate Anna Hazaare and team for making awareness in the public as well as to the elected representatives.
Present a bill and pass instantly without discussing the flaws in the bill will punish the innocents rather than the defaulters.

FIRST MAKE ELECTORAL REFORMS AND DOWRY PUNISHABLE IMMEDIATELY.
Spending huge amount of money, buying a lavish car, spending for marriage ceremonies and evading taxes to government are all flaws of an individuals mind.
Here individuals are corrupt, crooked and wicked.
Required correction within them from selfish to selfless and from stopping giving and taking bribe
Dear Mr. Rohith Bangalore Kindly note all the points which I have elaborated and required an individual to live righteously and lawfully.
People should honor life and do not dishonor life

Since 60 years of Independence Corruption is spreaded all over India. Without corruption I dont think Indian politican can survive or ready to contest in next Election if it is ruling party or opposition party every members of the house are involved directly or indirectly with this dirty game. For the politicians corruption is their bread and butter and very easy way to make quick money. If the Jan Lok pal bill and Lokayukth bill is implemented then no will come forward to contest or get the next election ticket then Election committee have to think to elect unanimously Mr. Anna Hazare as next prim minister of India to remove this dirty corruption tree from the botton.

Another member of Gandhi Family played their old dirty and diplomatic tactics to patronize corruption and corrupt people. Rahul and his family cheated , us (Indians), for decades. This family ruled for more than 50 years but did nothing against corruption. Today, they are talking same thing . No hope from Gandhi family and Congress. Rahul is not our future. We must elect other honest and patriotic guys rather than Rahul, in next election.

Rahul is the same puppet as Digvijay Singh , Manish Tewari and Kapil Sibal and others disgusting faces from Congress. Congress will patronize corruption . It has no will to eradicate corruption from India. People of India must understand that glam our and attraction towards a rich or famous guy cannot solve our problems . Only honest faces , like Anna and his team, our are our last hope. Be alert! Note :- BJP is moving on same path with major uses of diplomatic words . But, we will continue support Anna and his team because they are 1000% honest than Rahul and his private limited Company- Congress

Yes it is true dear Rahul ,we know as a common citizen of this country how much we suffer everyday just because of corruption, right from birth certificate to death certificate every men in India has to pass through bribe. So you being a young leader take more initiative to drive out the corruption as you said I also agree only Lokpal will not help to eradicate the corruption lot of changes to be done at grass root level, like better emoluments and facilities to the Govt. employees, reducing man power and increase in efficiency, transparency in day to day activities, strong law to protect RTI activists, very tough and fast action on Corruption related cases, etc.

Most important is instead just commenting on Janpal or Lokpal, act fast and prove yourself that you can also bring some changes to the nation. Whole nation supports Anna because The boiling point is reached of each and every citizen in India, we need changes. We expected more from you from last 10 days, when we watched the Television , we felt you are reading the contents that someone has written and given to you. Still there is time , as you said ` THINK AND SPEAK’ it is Better ` THINK AND ACT WHAT NATION WANTS AT THIS MOMENT’

Cont..)On his doubts about the single bill wiping out the corruption from the country, let us start first with this and then go to other measures. Even a thousand mile journey starts from one small step. This is that first step in that direction. It appeared to me he was just trying to mix many things in one and stall the bill, just like the government did.

In the end his speech showed only his stupidity. Apart from being Nehru family descendant he has no other qualification to be a politician. It is the bane misfortune of the country that a party which says that is more than 150 years old struggles to find a lead among the 1.1 billion populations and clings to this family immature members for leadership. While not condoning the leadership provided or the sacrifices made by the family earlier, my firm belief is that this family has no such leadership qualities now. It is high time the country and the party stop stooping and look for new blood in the new generation for leadership.

I had the opportunity to read RG’s speech today. First of he was reading a paper written by one of his aides, hence cannot say this is his speech. After reading it what I felt was that RG is entirely out of sync with what is happening today. Half of the speech was on the corruption and his observation of its effects on the nation, which is nothing new and everyone knows of it. Then he says that the bill alone will not eradicate corruption from the country and requires the political will. This is the very same point for which Anna and the Indians are fighting for. These politicians, not a single time the last 42 year when the bill was tabled many time, passed the bill. They neither had nor will ever have the political will to pass this bill. They are the biggest beneficiaries of the corruption process and if the bill is implemented they will be the first to go to jail. What we nation can expect from such politicians. That is why Anna has taken this crusade on him.

The other part of his speech was a question that these parliamentarians as representatives of the people of India today are whether are prepared to take the battle against corruption. All that required to eliminate corruption is honesty, truthfulness and being just, which costs nothing but all these politicians lack. It is a known truth that majority of them have used unethical means to attain parliamentarian status. It is the last thing to expect from these politicians (Cont...

What Qualiication does Rahul anyways have to play a role here except the surname "GANDHI". This is not a problem of some house in Italy or 10 Janpath. Or for that matter not issue relating to Congress party for which also he is not qualified except the fact his Mom is president. Shame on the Govt which has one of the most qualified PM, Finance minister or advisors like Ak Antony or some leaders look upon Rahul gandhi to diffuse the situation. They should better pack their bag instead. Its true you cannot just bend down to what the civil socity members say butatleast they could have breaked the ice through discussions & negotiations. They just assumed that the issue will die down like Ramdev style but this instead fired back. The Anna issue is nothing but self Invited by the Govt. They thought they could get away from it even this time, Unfortunetly !

To eradicate corruption is not as easy as anna hazaare dictates.
