Mangaluru, Oct 30: The Ullal bridge, which was not in news over wrong reasons for the past three years, witnessed a suicide in Monday October 30 afternoon.
The deceased is identified as Prasanna (37), son of B S Shankargowda, a resident of Mugulaballi Gokul Farm near Chikkamagaluru. Incidentally, it is the native place of Siddhartha, owner of Café Coffee Day owner, who had jumped off from the very spot to end his life.
The man, who arrived from Thokottu, stopped his car on NH 66 and jumped into the river from the side opening of the fencing.
Eye witnesses ran for Prasanna’s rescue. As scores of people gathered at the site of the incident, traffic on NH was affected for some time.
After the death of Café Day owner Siddhartha in 2019, the bridge had witnessed a series of suicides. In 2020, a fence was set up to prevent people from jumping of the top of the bridge into the river with grant from MUDA. After the fencing, the suicides had stopped.
