Raipur shuts to support Anna


Raipur, Aug 27 (IANS) Shutters were down, schools were closed and people from all age groups in this Chhattisgarh capital took to the streets Saturday to support activist Anna Hazare's fast for a strong anti-graft bill.

Roads wore a deserted look and taxis were not operating.

Men and women marched through main areas here raising slogans in support of Hazare whose fast in New Delhi entered the 12th day Saturday.

Students formed a long human chain at Budha Talab area where supporters have been holding a sit-in since day one of Hazare's fast Aug 16.

A faction of the Shiv Sena also called for a shutdown to support Hazare.

His supporters held a peaceful demonstration Friday outside Chief Minister Raman Singh's official residence here at Civil Lines area.
